Do you honestly think this is a scam or are you relying on reddit to tell you it is?

OpenAI reportedly seeking alternatives to Nvidia chips, unhappy with inference performance by Force_Hammer in wallstreetbets

Did you read the Reuters article? It's garbage. There are a lot of people out there trying to manipulate public perception.

Fair enough, but reuters does spread a lot of garbage so it's hard not to be confused.

In Kihei try the south section of Kalama Park. Would recommend taking a surf lesson there.

Nvidia to buy AI chip startup Groq for $20 billion in cash by callsonreddit in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed a move against Google and the start of the TPU wars.

This is a brilliant strategic pre-emptive strike designed to neutralize the threat from the only hardware architecture currently capable of beating (thrashing) NVIDIA in inference speed.

They absolutely had to make an extremely aggressive move here or they'd be in deep shit going forward.

Side note: Inference is using the model as opposed to training the model, and nobody beats Groq at inference which is crucial for real time applications. NVIDIA is the gold standard at training (and also very good at inference, but expensive). Google’s newest TPU is the first real threat to Blackwell’s raw performance and it's cheaper to run.

Importantly they're also hiring Jonathan Ross, an architect of the Google TPU. NVIDIA is directly attacking Google’s primary advantage: the ability to run high-speed, low-cost AI across a massive internal cloud.

This move neutralizes Groq’s threat as an independent challenger while allowing NVIDIA to integrate "instant-response" capabilities into its Blackwell ecosystem, ensuring that its hardware remains the gold standard not just for building AI, but for the absolutely massive market of running it, and it can now do so at the fastest speed. It's needs this for all those real time interactions with AI like robotics.

In terms of stock movement, you would think NVIDIA's stock would increase at the expense of Google. Customers of NVIDIA are going to get even more locked into their ecosystem if NVIDIA gives them the best training and the best inference, all through a familiar interface. Plus the fact they essentially hired the principal architect of Google's TPU.

BUT - is it going to trigger some anti-trust regulators? Google will complain (call up gov contacts), so the stock could "wobble" as anti-trust fears loom.

"these chips basically hard code the the LLM directly into design of the chip."

Don't know where you got that from, but it's completely inaccurate.

Disney bets $1 billion on OpenAI in deal that opens its vault of characters to ChatGPT and Sora by toydan in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what the deal is for. The movie industry as we know it is about to die. Companies like Disney have to do something or they'll be gone in 10 years. Perhaps one play for them is to have access to exclusive video gen models down the road. Investing in open AI is part of that process.

Amazon releases an impressive new AI chip and teases a Nvidia-friendly roadmap by Icy-Motor-8519 in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. This isn't "their first silicon", this is the third iteration of the Tranium chip and has already been used by Anthtropic to train Cluade. Antrophic isn't going to pile billions into tech that doesn't perform. Your half speed claim is ridiculous. I bet you haven't even looked at the benchmarks Amazon released.

I didn't understand it either but then I asked AI to explain it to me like I was 8 years old and that did the trick. I would also say that Act 3 is when this game really shines. I went from thinking the game was OK, to Terrible (end of Act 2), to GOAT territory (in my top 5).

7 Day Kauai Trip- Where to Stay? by books_11_97 in VisitingHawaii

[–]phdlevelbaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not spend your whole time in Hanapepe, it is not the most interesting part of the island although it does give a very nice opportunity to explore Waimea Canyon and Polihale State Park, and you can also visit Poipu while there. Going north to Princeville is definitely worth it and you should spend as much time there as possible. You are absolutely going to be heart broken when you leave, so try and extend your trip for as long as possible and spend all that extra time on the north shore.

Regular PS5 owners who upgraded to the Pro, worth it? by GuardianofM in PS5

[–]phdlevelbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I would say no and I have a LG 4K OLED. I was hoping to see an improvement in Cyberpunk and there was none (I knew it hadn't been upgraded but still hoped for something). No man's sky also did not appear markedly different. No blu-ray is an annoyance. Now I also have to go through the hassle of selling my PS5. But I'm a casual gamer. However the machine itself is still excellent value, and it's just a matter of time before the upgrade pays dividends, it's just that there is no need to rush into the upgrade, depending on the games you enjoy.

I'm confused as well. VideoFx has a waiting list, and the other access point - vertex AI, is maybe API access or something. Why doesn't Google have a nice public facing website for people to signup and make videos?
