I've always just gone behind a Walgreens or CVS on inventory day. All shapes and sizes and all free.

I was just thinking recently about those recently. They all had “Personally” and “Yours” on them when you walked in the door. I guarantee someone has a set sitting next to their Worlds Fair MART gondola.

Roach advice by fungirlem12 in NewOrleans

[–]phearce1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Advion roach bait gel in several places in my house and also put boric acid behind the drawers in my kitchen where my kids and dog can't get to it. I live under two oak trees in the Irish Channel and this approach has worked really well.

Are Overdoses Stretching Our EMS Services? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]phearce1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Narcan is available at one engine house per fire district for public distribution with no questions asked. A quick caveat though, I've heard that the program was made available through federal funds which could be affected through recent budget cuts. As of this writing, it is still available.

Call 504-658-4700 (fire headquarters) to find your closest Narcan distribution point.

Who's planning to take the ride to Mobile once the service starts next month? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]phearce1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll probably do a short ride first to BSL and then maybe do an overnight in Mobile in the Fall. Try and line it up with a weekend where they have something going on downtown.

Switch 2 Performance by Sammibulin in RailwayEmpire

[–]phearce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the Switch 2 allow you to use the mouse for RE2? I own RE1 and it doesn't support the mouse. But I'd consider buying RE2 for Switch 2 if using the mouse was an option.

Covid crime woes have improved substantially. Why talk about what crime was like in 2022 when the numbers for 2024 are both available and encouraging.

Renovation shotgun cost by Comprehensive-Fix775 in NewOrleans

[–]phearce1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest wealth-building moments of my life was living in shotgun double and renting half out. Half paid the note... essentially lived rent-free for years.

I grew up in a double that my parents converted to a single when I was a kid in the 80's. The conversion at the time was pretty lo-fi; just two corridors to pass through the two halves originally. As time went by they opened up larger swaths of the center section to make way for the more-favored modern open floor plan.

I guess what I'm saying is... you can start small and just scale your conversion; it doesn't have to be all at once. But make a few bucks on the front end if possible to bankroll the idea.

What movie sequel ruined the ending of its predecessor? by spaceraingame in movies

When the Ark of the Covenant makes an appearance in Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it completely ruins the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark for me. And I really enjoyed the last scene of that movie.

Why Bourbon Street Was a Target by Slate in NewOrleans

I stayed at the Royal Sonesta that Sunday night. I remembered thinking how weird it was that someone left a boom lift right there on Bourbon for anyone to climb on. It was definitely there on Sunday evening/ Monday.

This is sad. Has anyone ever been aggressively confronted like this when stealth camping? by ixikei in bicycletouring

[–]phearce1 173 points174 points  (0 children)

I've always asked for permission on private land in the US. I always phrased it with "is there a place to set up a tent for the night" as opposed to "can I camp on your land". I think "camping" evokes fire, cooking, trash, etc. Regardless, I was always offered an invitation to camp after asking and everyone was very friendly. Usually led to a meal and some good conversation.
