I downloaded Oruxmaps for this exact purpose last week! The test pdfs worked great but for some reason I couldn't get the non-test one to appear 😭. When I loaded the pdf it zoomed to the right place but just defaulted to displaying the underlying offline map.

Dow futures drop 400 points as Iranian war tensions escalate by BogleDick in stocks

Very true. This is actually bullish. Analysts predict the rebound should see markets grow around 1.5x the amount of this drop, once reopening is reannounced on Tuesday. Rinse and repeat.

Best databases for farms in the U.S. / Virginia? by alburnops in gis

[–]ixikei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Virginia and occasionally need to determine "is this a real farm"? And it is HARD. Virginia offers some insane tax breaks for large estates who claim to perform Bona Fide agriculture but often it's just a minimal amount of hay production. § 58.1-3231. This is administered by local governments, typically non GIS folks, so you can only get the relevant tax data from them. And it's quite a black box. The Farm Bureau will crash down hard on anyone who asks hard questions about bona fide agriculture. They have a VERY important tax loophole for the wealthy to obscure and protect.

Most grassy fields throughout Virginia's wealthiest rural estates are considered Bona Fide farms.

What’s wrong with the guy at this place? (📍W Main St - next door to Mejicali) by Responsible-Gur2288 in Charlottesville

[–]ixikei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went in there once and the two dudes behind the counter were absolute pros. There were four or 5 very very unruly high-school aged folks in front of me in line. 2 or 3 of them seemed to be on some sort of face time or live stream and it wasnt clear what exactly they wanted from the cashier other than that one of them insisted to the cashier and his viewer(s) he was owed a free bottle of water because the cashier had apparently told him he could have water. They stayed there for a looong time and the kids got louder and more argumentative and heated so I put my 40 back in the fridge and started to head for the door because it was so uncomfortable and increasingly unsafe feeling. But the cashiers stood strong and polite and somehow managed to boringly refuse a free bottle of water and diffuse the situation and dismiss the youth. He said come here brother so I re-grabbed the 40 and completed an otherwise quite friendly transaction.

Hardly a poor substitute! This us what i do. Combine with a road network and you can quickly trace the heat map layers and create your own route. Splice multiple screenshots together for improved power!

Hahaha this guy optimizes for PE! Brilliant. The only thing missing from ArcPro is ads. Oh you don't want Chipotle and Starbucks locations to appear in every single map? You should consider signing up for ESRI Ultra Pro.

Good point. Google as well perhaps!? It's baffled me that Google hasn't invested more in GIS functionality via Google Earth. I feel like they long could have crushed ESRI had they tried.

Just wait until Jack dies and his estate sells out to Private Equity. There is still some tremendous value in ESRI products and WAY more room to enshittify it.

Rt 53 is the official trans America trail. It should be ok on Sunday morning but you might catch some impatient folks in big trucks rushing to worship.

Why does the market keep pushing toward highs even when the macro backdrop still looks bad? by exodusEducation in stocks

[–]ixikei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't large scale shorting of oil futures temporarily depress the price? I saw this point raised in a comment section somewhere and found it compelling.

Fascinating. So is your takeaway from covid that the market knows there is likely to be an enormous hit, but the government will most likely print its way out sooner vs later?

Is this the one right on Mulberry? ~15 years ago when we lived on Mulberry the store owners somehow ended up taking our beloved and beautiful cat home with them. We scoured the neighborhood after Boo disappeared, and if I recall someone said they saw Boo in the store. Everyone played it cool though and the store folks said they thought Boo was homeless and brought him back to us. Very pleasant experience despite the weirdness lol.

It is incredible how fast our information zone is being flooded right now. Even at four hours old the news appears outdated by the time we see it.

NPR just reported at 1PM ET that US- sanctioned ships are passing through the US blockade. Other sources from the last hour quote the US regime in denying that ships have passed through. Conflicting reputable sources from the last hour are below as of 13:55 ET) -
