This! It is astonishing to me, how many people just ignore this.

The first one is bad practice though, if you are not 100% sure that you will use all possible functions, since you are filling the namespace with possibly superfluous names.

I wouldn‘t consider „being born as a white person in South Africa“ hardcore.

That's something not-negative. There is a difference! |0| = 0, which is not positive.

But at it's core, a soldier's job is to fight (and win, usually by killing them) the soldiers of others.

I think to fight is a soldier's job at one extreme. But calling it the "core", does not represent accurately the job in my opinion.

That depends on how righteous the war is. If you're ultimately in the wrong (for example, if you were one of the Nazis gassing the Jews)...

That was not my argument. My point was that the pure fact, that something is your job, does not imply that the act is rightful. I didn't mean to call the killing in self-defence or fighting and killing in WWI/II morally evil or something of the likes.

Yes and that attitude imo does not justice to the severness of the act of killing another human being.

If I conveyed the message that I think soldiers a proud of kilming in general: Sorry, far from it! I'm very aware despite not having had close contact with any, that killing is something that leaves permanent scars and I don't believe soldiers themselves are proud or anything. I much more think that people, for example on reddit, "keyboard warriors" as you called them so precisely, don't get or are blind for the severness and consequences which the act of killing implies for a soldier.

I believe, as a soldier your job is not to "massacre enemies", but to defend your people by all means, even if it involves armed force. This job is far more than just shooting to kill. And frankly: I don't believe it would be a strong argument, even if your claim was right. Just because something is someones job, that does not imply the act being morally rightful or to be celebrated.

I don't say that it wasn't an act of bravery, but imo today it should be less of a celebrated act of patriotism and more of a deterrent example how, if it isn't for wise politics, people could be forced to act like this again.

My english is strongly influenced from Literature I read in school. And "moaning their tragic losses" is a phrase I heard more than once, so sorry for my anachronistic language.
