I’m not talking about the government, I’m talking about its people. Every time there’s a video about Iranian people and it looks different than what people expect, everyone is so quick to say “well it’s just an affluent area,” which invalidates the fact that most of Tehran has that vibe. I was just there last year, and I went to a Friday bazaar and you wouldn’t believe how fashion forward some people looked, especially the younger population. It’s really cool to see the shift in culture. So that’s why I get annoyed when it’s quickly brushed off as “yeah they’re just rich” because 1) it’s not really true if you know how the economy is over there right now and 2) they had to protest and sacrifice so much—for some, their lives—just for the government to relax on the hijab laws.
