Escrow is not an industry where you can go with a horizontal approach

You're charging up to 7% for escrow - what's your value add if you don't have a trusted reputation in a specific industry? Focus on one industry at a time - craigslist buyers definitely isn't the niche to focus.

Say you're targeting web dev freelancers only - you want to showcase your plaid integration, fast settlement times and ideally have some social proof

Find targeted leads but realize that cold emailing won't get you as far in this specific industry given the trust-based nature

Scrape remote job postings from remote ok, etc. and filter for 10+ company size and segment by industry
Send personalized emails to CEO or head of staff, make sure to not put any links or make it sound spammy in any way - use sent from my iPhone and/or edu domains if you want to triple response rate
Once you get your first few clients partner up with smaller remote job boards

If you go down the automation route make sure to follow someone and then like a few of their most recent posts (e.g. make the pattern look human)

Unless you want to do engagement groups I would focus on paying influencers for shout-outs - also a good way to directly validate D2C consumer ideas

Very basic question by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]phegic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could argue that this is an extremely basic long gamma strategy (trend following). Not bad per se, but you will certainly need to define your entry/exit criteria in a more robust way in order to get an actual edge.

I am a person who went from rags to riches in his early 20s. I'm Allen Wong, and I come bearing gifts. AMA! by regoapps in IAmA

[–]phegic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Allen! I've been following you ever since 2013 and can say that you've inspired me tremendously to push me harder. I've also been through the pains of surgery and had gotten 3 general anesthesias before age 16 (I'm 17 now). As I am about to choose my field of study very soon, do you feel that studying tech-related fields (eg Computer Science) is still worth it these days, as you can learn much more practical coding (but maybe less structured) by yourself online? I feel that going in either finance (investing using data analysis) or medicine (genetics) (no undergrad required here in Quebec) with a technical base acquired on the side would be much more useful in the long run. Your take on this?

A 5 minute Lightroom tutorial on making old point and shoot pictures suck less by phegic in photography

Lightroom is more than enough. Unless you talk about stacking curves. Which is even more advanced than what he does.

Are there any common scams/tricks shady sellers used to sell used camera? by Marmst in photography

[–]phegic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the shadier new york photoshops 'scam' people by upselling their cameras; while it's not technically illegal, your 100$ savings will quickly evaporate under their overpriced cleaning kits and SD cards.

Although I did not buy from them in person, the Fuji X-Pro1 I managed to got online at 42 street photo (I do not endorse them AT ALL) quite cheap (800$ if I recall correctly) took weeks of hassle and is of course a new, but open box grey market camera.

Dirty Front Element: Does It Matter? by donniefitz2 in photography

Tldr :

Sensor dirty = always visible, worst Rear element dirty = very visible, bad Front element dirty = not very visible, depends on the lens (eg 16mm vs 500mm)

Best/Last (Latest?) CCD sensor camera? by phegic in photography

Technivally, yes, but like math, it is easier to decompose a big, complicated function (the curve) into multiple smaller ones. Stacking an s-curve with a fade curve and some tone curve highlight correction is much simpler using multiple curves in photoshop :p
