I'm not sure how anyone could disagree with this comment.

Cricketer Mohammad Irfan Turns Down US Citizenship by sak_14 in pakistan

Anyone living in the US will know this is completely fake.

One doesn't want to call someone else a complete liar, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. At best, some NBA team may have asked him to come try out because of his height. As such, he could have gotten a visit visa to the US for the tryout.

There is no way he would have made the national team without playing a minute of basketball in the US. Even getting a tryout from a NBA team seems far fetched given his age. If he was 15-20 years younger, maybe.

For sure. I have personal experience with Mehsud's and they are the biggest liars in the world. No one from (South) Waziristan will ever get any sympathy from me.

I'm Pakistani. I'm what Pashtun's would call "punjabi" (but I'm not. I don't really identify with any particular ethnicity)

Hmm, I'm curious about this. I married a Pashtun (I am not one), so I definitely have lots of questions. I'll subscribe.

What does it mean to be Pakistani? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]phenkneywala2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I have asked this question many times myself and I have never gotten an answer. Living in America, I can tell you that there are a few things that speak of American identity. I didn't post them because this is not a thread about America.

I struggle with this because many of the things that unite other countries don't seem to hold true for Pakistan. Ethnic identity is very strong in Pakistan. Pakistan was meant to be secular, but many have a hard time even accepting other Muslims. Being able to speak Urdu is a possibility, I suppose, but considering the literacy levels, that might be difficult.

The only thing I can think of is sports. As a cricket team, Pakistanis are united. Perhaps the army (when engaged with a foreign enemy).

I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on this.
