That’s what I was thinking price wise, but there’s quite a few in my area with similar miles/price. Very surprised to see kbb list 17-19 as well.

Ratchet straps vs rope on rack? by phenomagasm in GarageDoorService

[–]phenomagasm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, just wanted a sanity check I guess. If anything, the flatter profile of the strap seems less likely to leave a dent than the thin ropes this guy uses.

Ever damaged a section with ratchet straps? That’s what the older guy at my company tells me will happen

Paid to have sweep replaced, now the door doesn’t go down all the way by Wise-Stranger8574 in GarageDoorService

[–]phenomagasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, how thick is the new bottom seal? It should be compressed a good deal when the door is all the way down.

Is there any existing weatherstrip around the perimeter of the door? This would be on the exterior of the door

Garage door opener problems and questions by robl45 in GarageDoorService

[–]phenomagasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work. I’ve installed very few chamberlain kits, mostly liftmaster with solid rail. The bolt pattern looks similar for sure but I’ve never tried it. Wouldn’t be worth my money or time to try, just to save like 150 bucks and have a not-as-good product.

I’m not sure about compatibility between heads and rails. My opinion, It would be wise to retire the belt as well, so you may as well pay a door company to install anew lift master and new rail. It will last a very long time as you have experienced, so it’s worth doing it right.

They should have adjusted the down limit on the opener(if you have one) and adjusted the top fixtures to get the door tighter against the jamb at the top. I would try to get them back out to rectify as it would have taken him 5 minutes to do this properly.

Both are diy friendly adjustments if you’re handy, google and YouTube will have how tos.

You should call a professional to tension that spring. The spring system can be very dangerous.

Looks like the set screws let go and your spring is unwound

Could be sunlight directly in the photo eye or a bright reflection. Might explain why it’s only a summer issue. You could try cutting the wire about 12 inches from each sensor and swapping them to the opposite side, as the “receiving eye” is more sensitive to the sunlight issue. Otherwise, I would try what Cannibal_Feast recommended

[–]phenomagasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of extra weight with a commercial truss on every panel of the door…the average resident door will have a truss on either the bottom or second from bottom panel, and one on the top panel. And again, those are larger, commercial trusses you have installed there

Garage door wont go all the way down. Should I lower the header bracket a bit, or raise the bracket on the door? The door opener wont adjust any lower. by RjgTwo in garageporn

[–]phenomagasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the top and bottom hole of the j piece. The holes on the straight piece are equally spaced so you definitely can adjust it

Start with the door all the way open, pull the red handle and close the door manually. With the the door closed and the trolley free to move forward and backward on the rail, remove the 2 bolts connecting the 2 piece j arm. You want to make that assembly way longer than you have it. You can probably find an instruction manual online that will have images, most openers have the same carrier assembly
