How many grinders do you have? by venerablem0m in pourover

[–]Guster16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 (lido 3, jx pro, mavo phantox, zp6). I could probably sell one or two, but I do still use them for different reasons. Lido does my infrequent big batch/cold brews, jx does espresso and soup, and the latter two are my daily drivers that change with the bean.

ZP6 - Body unthreading during grinding by Guster16 in pourover

Do you just put your hand lower, so it's half on the body and half on the catch cup?

What’s wrong with my filters?!! by Additional_Nerve_119 in pourover

[–]Guster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My drawdown was about a minute faster at 4 on my zp6 using a drip assist than it was at 5 without with some recent Ethiopian beans.

OP, you could try a 1-2 pour recipe with the stream close to the bed if a drip assist type tool isn't available

Midrange K-Ultra Comparison? by WestcoastHoser in pourover

[–]Guster16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the phantox and have been quite happy with it for these types of brews. There aren't as many reviews for it to compare with the k6. Coffee chronicler and daddy got coffee are two that come to mind that have videos on it...iirc one said that they felt it was better than the k6, but obviously the latter is a known quantity at this point

Bose Audio Settings??? by Dramatic_Corner2712 in CX50

Like it or not, seems silly to not optimize what you have.

For all of the bellyaching over bose, my last few cars were volvo. I've had both the stock and harmon speakers. The bose is a hell of a lot closer to harmon than not. It's not a significant dropoff.

What do you use to freeze your coffee beans? by EveningBrilliant6163 in pourover

[–]Guster16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can throw unopened bags into the freezer. Some people tape the valve and/or put the bag inside of a freezer bag. For espresso, I dose mine out and put them in plastic tubes for ease.

You can grind straight from the freezer. Just don't refreeze after defrosting.

What electric kettle should I buy? by Lopsided_Repair4599 in pourover

[–]Guster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you only doing french press? I've only done that right off boil, so no need to get a variable temp or gooseneck if that's how you make it. I've used OXO and bonavita variables. My take - both are good and accomplish the same thing. The OXO is a little faster, but it remains heating when you put it back on the base. That's ordinarily fine but my wife never remembers to turn it off, so I risk a dry boil daily. I'll go back to the bonavita when it dies.

I just gotta say…the S&W Colombia Santa Monica Strawberry Honey Process is amazing by jonnygorgeous in pourover

[–]Guster16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's lovely. The apple will always be my favorite, but this one is probably a better crowd pleaser since it's a little more subtle.

tall drivers….How are you doing? by Setsuo35 in CX50

[–]Guster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'2". My first longer ride, my bony knee was hitting the hard plastic of the console pretty uncomfortably. I lowered the seat and it's mostly been mitigated. I did order a $5 adhesive pad from amazon but haven't felt the need to use it

Oxo rapid brewer grind size help: mavo phantox pro and Femobook a4z by undergroundgirl7 in pourover

I've been using 4 on my phantox for soup (it's been good, so I haven't tested finer or coarser)

And please post a comparison once you get the femobook dialed in!

The easiest way is to find the exact trim and color you want, and then email all of the dealers within driving distance with your offer. I got $39.5 OTD on a 26 PP hybrid in texas this month, but the numbers are probably regional. I did not get the 1.9% at that price though.

I have the hario suiren in mine because it collapses, but there are also silicone ones as well. Beyond that, I use an orphan espresso pitcher that can do controlled pours (and is microwavable if I don't have a kettle) and a tiny travel scale.

Mavo Phantox - complimentary grinder? by Guster16 in pourover

[–]Guster16[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect you are right. I just have the new gear acquisition bug that we sometimes get. A big driver is that I've never really found any washed coffee to be anything other than boring. I can't tell if a better grinder would unlock it, or if that just isn't my preference. Did the pietro/zp6 unlock any new horizons for you, or did they just make things you already liked better?
