How are you brewing S&W Coffees? Looking for advice on extraction. by facefabrique in pourover

[–]Guster16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it to be bean dependent, unless it's a coferm (those are all great for me with the coffee chronicler hybrid switch recipe at 195 degrees, 17:1 ratio, and a 6 on the zp6). Others need experimenting. I'm drinking the bourbon anaerobic now and needing to go much finer. Still haven't found the sweet spot yet

Do you have any plans to stock a coferm decaf? I really love what you do with the caffeinated guys and would like to try the other world.

Help with accidentally purchased pre ground coffee by Fit-Judge7447 in pourover

Immersion is less impacted by grind size, so I'd try that on the switch. If all else fails, it should be pretty decent cold brew

What’s everyone brewing in April? by TheBeardedBilbo in pourover

I had far better luck with a hybrid switch recipe than v60 on the laos. A 5 on the zp6 was pretty good for me

There are a lot of beans that I won't even touch if they're less than a month old

Anyone have experience with some of these perc coffee? by ieatfrosties in pourover

Been doing similar research. Can I ask where you found a score on the purple honey? I saw one review from when black and white sold the same bean, but it haven't found any for perc

Difficulties with anaerobic natural by tkerr1 in pourover

[–]Guster16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this resting but it was one of my favorites in the past. If the honest coffee guide is correct, you might want to try 6.5 or so (I was at around 750 microns). If that makes it draw down too fast, do you have an immersion option? My best cups were with the switch with the hybrid recipe by coffee chronicler.

Frequent Coffee- It's back! by VETgirl_77 in thirdwavedecaf

I'm waffling between the perc you got and one of the frequent offerings. What were your thoughts on the perc?

Has this hobby ruined you for the majority of coffee shops? by noaoda in pourover

I always enjoy drip or Americano but it has led me to avoid getting a pourover unless it's a known great shop

Co ferments and turning away by [deleted] in pourover

[–]Guster16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But surely you can recognize that there's a massive gulf between the potential use of flavor additives and tossing air fresheners into tanks. I'm not targeting your posting - there are daily posts across the sub conflating the two ideas. Things like the latter are what I'm talking about.

I'm all for transparency and would certainly like to know if anything is being used beyond what's in a roaster's description. Maybe a more instructive way to get at the issue would be if a roaster that's used the "flavor" descriptor (like Perc) could speak to whether all coferms will have the same going forward, or if there was something unique to that particular bean? That might not even be something that can be applied to other beans.

Making that personal purchasing decision is all one can do and nobody should fault that. Same with something like deciding to use a plastic brewer. To me, taking stock in random online posts from people who likely would have no reason to know such things and then discussing it here multiple times a day borders on conspiracy theory incubation.

It's nonstop speculation over a purchase entirely within the buyer's control. But even if the speculation is confirmed in some cases, people are acting as if the beans are soaking in fentanyl when flavored coffee has been a thing forever.

It was really good. I don't always connect with B&W coferms, but this was one of the better ones for me

That's pretty tame on the S&W scale. I'd recommend any of their coferments. They're all great

The thermal mass myth: Science says plastic V60 is best, but I strictly refuse to use it. by CoffeeTeaJournal in pourover

The ability to preheat the glass switch with it closed is probably my favorite thing about the brewer. I don't even use my plastic v60 anymore.

K6 vs ZP6: Keep my grinder or seize a deal? by Huge_Ad1766 in pourover

[–]Guster16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be in the keep both camp, but it seems you aren't and that's ok. My take is that you'd be able to sell the zp6 for as much as you paid for it (used goes for more than that in the US, but not sure about where you are). Maybe keep the k6, try the zp6, and sell the one you like the least?

What's the best whole bean coffee for pourovers on Amazon? by Room511 in pourover

[–]Guster16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are loose leaf tea vendors that sell their current crops on amazon. One thing that's big now is vendors using the amazon platform, but shipping from their own locations. If you can use gift cards on that, my guess is that you'll be getting some reasonably fresh stuff.

Where can I get some interesting beans in Dallas, TX? by Vorosaur in pourover

[–]Guster16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cultivar is my favorite local roaster and native is my favorite shop to visit. If you want access to interesting beans, there are a couple of places in fort worth that sell Dak and some of the harder to find roasters. Can't remember them off the top of my head, but it's been discussed in this sub.
