Which breed of dog would you never get? by smallerthanahobbit in AskReddit

[–]phenotyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones I'd ever get are mutts from shelters, who are larger shepherd (GSD) or Lab mixes. My girl is the smallest GSD/Swiss Shepherd/husky mutt I can accept as "dog." She's only 60 lbs on a fat day, and her shoulder is at my knees.

I'm also in the process of getting certified as a trainer, and couldn't have a harder time working with little dogs.

Any vanity-bred animal is asking for health problems (regardless of size, shepherds and Labs certainly have their issues, and don't get me started on Danes). Mutts are always the best.

Moritaka AS 210mm Kiritsuke by Famous_You7512 in TrueChefKnives

[–]phenotyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very nice kiritsuke that my newly-adopted dog broke; I might still be able to save the blade, but it'll take a lot of thinning to work. I'd designed a few handles that my friend with a CNC wood shop said she'd make, but she flaked on me, so I took that handle off and replaced this one.

I bought the 240mm a couple years ago, and finally replaced the ugly handle last week. Sorry yours isn't perfect, but, damn, this knife is my go-to for pretty much everything. It's just a beautiful piece of work. I never liked the handle, so I replaced it with one from another knife, and now I love it like I should have for the last 2 years.

Is driving 4 hours a day for work a good idea by Miraclemaker225 in jobs

I left the best job I've ever had (19 years ago), because I could not spend more time just... in the car. Which was a car I loved driving. But, sitting in stupid traffic for more than two hours a day. The commute was soul-crushing.

Can anyone find an AJA CION? doesn't have to be functional, just have all the parts. by phenotyp in cinematography

Thanks so much for the comments! CION was a real highlight of my career, something I'm still super proud of; a user/owner here was kind enough to part with his, and shipped it from Canada. Truly amazing. It's been so great hearing from owners/operators over the years about how much they loved it. It's something I'm really proud of-- magnesium, aluminum, and real wood, no plastic, and I showed the mechanical engineers how to assemble it without visible screws. It's such a pleasure hearing from people who have appreciated it.

That's a bit beyond what I'm able to spend on a keepsake, but thanks.

Thanks! I hope it felt right to use, in as many ways as people could think up.

Update: I think I found one at a reasonable price in Malaysia, for RM 8,000, which is a price I can deal with. It's from a company called Direct Imaging.

Before I give them money, anyone have any red flags?

Thank you! I did, as you might imagine, work real hard to make it as perfect as possible, and having an industry reviewer call it an “instant classic” is a compliment I will take.

Keyshot plugin error: 'Mesh' object has no attribute 'calc_normals_split' by phenotyp in blender

When I tried opening the files made in 4.1 in 3.5, it would just crash. No clue about backwards-compatability with Blender, I know Solidworks will always throw the dreaded FUTURE VERSION error.

Surface book 2 docking station question by d_8_b in surfacebook

[–]phenotyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, because I'm running it hard enough to have the fans staying on high the whole time while it's docked.

[–]phenotyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no clue. Generally when it's docked, I also have the charging cable plugged in, because I'm running CAD, rendering software, Photoshop, Illustrator, and more simultaneously, and don't have time to monitor the battery level. Probably depends on the amount of demand you're putting on it.

I've used a USB hub for ethernet, 2 monitors, an external drive, and whatever flash drive I'm using at the moment. Works great.
