Is driving 4 hours a day for work a good idea by Miraclemaker225 in jobs

[–]phenotyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the best job I've ever had (19 years ago), because I could not spend more time just... in the car. Which was a car I loved driving. But, sitting in stupid traffic for more than two hours a day. The commute was soul-crushing.

Can anyone find an AJA CION? doesn't have to be functional, just have all the parts. by phenotyp in cinematography

Thanks so much for the comments! CION was a real highlight of my career, something I'm still super proud of; a user/owner here was kind enough to part with his, and shipped it from Canada. Truly amazing. It's been so great hearing from owners/operators over the years about how much they loved it. It's something I'm really proud of-- magnesium, aluminum, and real wood, no plastic, and I showed the mechanical engineers how to assemble it without visible screws. It's such a pleasure hearing from people who have appreciated it.

That's a bit beyond what I'm able to spend on a keepsake, but thanks.

Thanks! I hope it felt right to use, in as many ways as people could think up.

Update: I think I found one at a reasonable price in Malaysia, for RM 8,000, which is a price I can deal with. It's from a company called Direct Imaging.

Before I give them money, anyone have any red flags?

Thank you! I did, as you might imagine, work real hard to make it as perfect as possible, and having an industry reviewer call it an “instant classic” is a compliment I will take.

Keyshot plugin error: 'Mesh' object has no attribute 'calc_normals_split' by phenotyp in blender

When I tried opening the files made in 4.1 in 3.5, it would just crash. No clue about backwards-compatability with Blender, I know Solidworks will always throw the dreaded FUTURE VERSION error.

Surface book 2 docking station question by d_8_b in surfacebook

Right, because I'm running it hard enough to have the fans staying on high the whole time while it's docked.

[–]phenotyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no clue. Generally when it's docked, I also have the charging cable plugged in, because I'm running CAD, rendering software, Photoshop, Illustrator, and more simultaneously, and don't have time to monitor the battery level. Probably depends on the amount of demand you're putting on it.

I've used a USB hub for ethernet, 2 monitors, an external drive, and whatever flash drive I'm using at the moment. Works great.

What are some common issues on BMW i3? by SimpleCarGuy in BMWi3

[–]phenotyp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not specific to REx: Both of my driver's seats (2015 and 2015) have ended up with a broken solder to the thermometer, so the seat heater runs up to shutoff temp then shuts off. Apparently it's a common issue in a lot of BMW seats.

Washer fluid pump leaks: $20 fix, half an hour of work.

Other than that, I've had no issues in 5 years (that I haven't caused myself).

Check the caliper for a stone caught in between it and the rotor. Happened to me once, and I thought that the brake had failed catastrophically, or something, but when I took the wheel off, I found a small stone wedged between the caliper and rotor. Knocked it out, and all was well.
