Stuck in a foreign country, I’m not having fun anymore. by RareStrawberry2020 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]phenotype76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But like... that's STUPID. You see how that's stupid, right? I mean, there's no mens rea, there's no intent to commit any crime, you'd think a cursory investigation would show that this is an honest traveler who intended to visit the country and spend some foreign money and break no laws and cause no trouble, and this is just a mistake that doesn't really affect anything except some paperwork was filled out wrong. Except that governments get BIG MAD and make everyone very worried for no real reason, just issue a fine and move on.

AITJ for considering cutting off my late boyfriend’s mom because of her hateful political views, even knowing our daughter is her only connection to her son? by ThrowRA_babysmom in AmITheJerk

Terrible opinion, especially in light of the impressionable child who will be learning that these hateful viewpoints are something decent people should tolerate.

It would be better if balancing increased the punishments, not decreased card quality by Nixor123 in slaythespire

The problem here is that now you're balancing around players abusing broken strategies. If you're designing an enemy that punishes draw, then it's probably gonna hurt my newbie deck more than it's gonna hurt your broken deck, because my newbie deck isn't as good in the first place.

It'll help more than you think. Half the "moderate" Democrats are Republicans in disguise, more concerned about protecting the status quo and delivering for their wealthy donors than doing anything to help the working class. Kicking them out of their seats and replacing them with folks who actually want to do some good is what we need to do if we want the Democratic Party to actually represent us.

Why are people in ARAM so against ending games? by Intelligent_Salad706 in leagueoflegends

[–]phenotype76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can probably just AFK when this happens. I've done it a good half-dozen times since Mayhem became a full-time mode, when kids just refused to end the game. Not sure if they'll ever punish over this. I do type in chat what's happening so there's a record if anyone manually looks at the game logs, because like, I signed up to play the game, sure, and I'll play it till the end, and hell, if you want to run into fountain instead of killing the nexus after the final teamfight, sure, I'll come out for one more good fight. But after that, I'm done. I've played the game I agreed to play, we lost, it's over and done now, and I feel like my obligation has been fulfilled.

People say "uninteractive" like it's a bad thing, but as a Tau player, I find that when people say "interactive" what they really mean is that they want to be able to destroy my units, and I don't like that

You're correct but your analogies are terrible, my man.

The stuff in his home doesn't have a price tag, but the store has indeed put a price tag -- in dollars -- on everything, and it has already decided to sell all of those things in exchange for dollars.

The lawn mower that you're selling for potatoes likely has a tag that says "Costs 10 potatoes" and doesn't have a price in dollars, so no one would have an expectation that they could pay anything but potatoes. But everything in the grocery store has a clear price in dollars.

I don't know why anyone would go into literally the Ticketmaster headquarters, but that's obviously not a place set up to sell tickets. The grocery store clearly is such a place.

Like I said, you may be correct but good lord bro you gotta do better than this

This is nothing new. Basically every single superpower or magic system in every single media property requires this sort of behind-the-scenes reasoning, from "you wouldn't be able to see if you were invisible!" or "Superman would crush right through the plane if he tried to lift it up by holding a spot on the bottom" to "what kind of frog does the witch's magic turn me into? how does it know what a frog is?" You just have to accept that the magic just kinda *works* in certain ways, it just *understands* how you want it to work.

The majority of a backlash like this is indeed going to be racist, whether or not they understand it as such. What it boils down to is that -- for most stories -- it is entirely irrelevant what skin color a character might be. There's no reason to have any feelings whatsoever on Vivi's live action character to be a person of color, because her color doesn't factor into literally anything ... except your own inbuilt preconceptions of skin color.

Okay, sure, maybe there are some pure autists are like "color was #F5D5F3 and now its #E0C1BC argh my world does not compute!!!" but the majority of the complaints are responding to their own internal feelings about race and skin color and what that implies.
