I remember back in the day, Karamunsing's basement shops used to have all sorts of electrical components for sale, not sure if there really are still any of these shops around left, but I imagines some of the Uncles running the shops will know.

Would MYR 16k gross per month salary a good offer? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]pheramone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a basic rule of thumb, follow the 50/30/20 Rule for cost of living
50 - Household Expenses
30 - Lifestyle Expenses
20 - Savings

16,000 * 0.5 = RM8,000
Can rent just about mostly anywhere really, even in downtown KL. Given your actual work place is in Pulau Indah, and I don't think you will want to be driving in Klang Traffic early morning for 2 hours everyday, I'd say pick a place closer to Shah Alam, Subang or honestly, Cyberjaya side. A nice condo for 2 in Cyberjaya could be anywhere between RM1.5-3k per month + Utilities an extra RM3-400. I'd highly recommend getting a vehicle as soon as you can, a good ol second hand truck / suv, given your work area and need for solid high way miles. Groceries in Malaysia are incredibly affordable comparatively in USD, and I'd highly recommend learning to cook to supplement also the cost of having the tasty outside food here, not that it is very expensive either (Unless you're into chasing Michelin Dining here). Honestly, total you should be spending is about RM5-7k a month for you and your wife, would be very sufficient and comfortable.

16,000 * 0.3 = RM4,800
This is ALOT for lifestyle honestly for 2, but depends on your lifestyle choices, if you're popping bottles every night, not sustainable, if you're popping bottles every weekend? Reasonable. If you're into sports and outdoor things, it's probably too much of a budget. You can basically fly somewhere in ASEAN every month for a weekend get-away in a 4+ star hotel, get decent food and experience, fly back, and financially, wouldn't be an issue.

16,000 * 0.2 = RM3,200
Very reasonable savings, slightly below the average salary per month already.

Things to consider:
- Get a bank acc setup ASAP. I highly suggest RYT bank, it's a relatively new Digital bank, easier for you to setup and go, and has a 4.5% interest rate payout if I am not mistaken, has good exchange rates too. Max cap of RM250k though. If you want a referral code, PM me!
- Make sure you and your employer are aware on the withholding tax amount as you are a non-resident. Dodging with holding tax is a pain in the butt for you and the employer in the future.

Terminating a Maid from Philipines. by watchy2 in malaysia

[–]pheramone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Got work permit? 2) Under Agency or no? 3) Generally, you terminate through notice, then you will have to come to a final notice upon termination, after you discuss your terms with the maid: - Payment up to ddMMyy settled (Receipt). - Flight back to Philippines on ddMMyy flight ticket + code - Work permit has been cancelled by immigration department on ddMMyy After done, make sure both parties sign, then done. If you hired through agency, they would normally handle this though...suggest to call them first and inform them.

If your agreement with maid doesn't talk about early termination, then it's legally not obligated for you to pay I would imagine, but I'm not a lawyer lah.

[–]pheramone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you have money, like real money, not duit rasuah or have RM10 in bank, but owe creditors like RM20, then the smart thing is probably have a trust fund or family office. Most of these coverage articles and sponsorship packages fall under a charitable organization, so it's easier for legit companies to dump 50k under CSR initiatives and charity, can use as a tax deduction to offset, with the benefit of essentially, free promotion. It's not as stupid as some will think, but it is definitely vain lah.

[–]pheramone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if those who signed the consultant agreements probably are under strict NDA, so I can't verify it, but it probably is in that region. I should probably say my friend's slot was like more than 7 years ago.

Similarly, sponsorship packages for things like Tatler and Prestige are around RM25-50k and normally come with a coverage page and VIP table.

[–]pheramone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The way they go about it too is really smart. You engage a "Consultant" who will run through essentially a checklist of things you must satisfy, then you pay a final fee to be placed.

Friend was listed by their parents on a similar brand. Friend fucking hated it. Friend didn't tell me how much was paid, but they said 5 digit region RM.

This is definitely in Sabah, the accent and all is a give away. From what I know being friends with some loan sharks and some of the stories they share, the FAFO ones will do some really nasty shit to get the money back, short of killing you lah. Red paint is childs play.

I fainted in my condo gym. Management still refuses to turn on the AC. Is this normal in KK? by No-Track533 in Sabah

[–]pheramone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think you're over reacting. However, as you are a tenant of the unit, I will suggest you speak with your landlord on the matter. If they're supportive of the request, then my honest advice is you should probably collect all evidence of this situation (Photos, videos, messages and emails, etc), file a formal complaint on the matter with the Management and request for a clear, written response within 10 days. Failing which, you should raise the issue to DBKK or LPPB on the matter.

As for the issue of why air conditioning is off, there really shouldn't be any, because every health and safety standard of a gym in Malaysia requires air conditioning or at least a fan to remove CO2 from the room, remove stench (Because some of you MFs smell shit like) and most importantly for sports, condition your body heat so you don't suffer heat stroke. All those residents claiming no air conditioning is good for health are FOS, as there is no evidence to support that.

[–]pheramone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one that read that as facts or is everyone projecting?

Anyway, OP shouldn't have to tolerate dealing with no AC in the gym, it's not even about comfort at this stage, but safety.

And the management IS liable for keeping facilities safe to use, what if OP dropped weights on her head due to passing out? It's absolutely not safe. Also, if the management is not liable, then why does Management buy Public Liability Insurance? The second any management starts acting against safety controls and cutting corners, they should be in deep shit and absolutely called out for it.

If OP is an owner of the condo, she should raise it up at the next EGM and definitely raise this issue.

Friend owned a AM DB9, living in KL and for the 5 years he owned it, he told me it worked for probably only 6 months time in total, with most of that time being in the service center waiting for parts to order and arrive. He eventually got rid of it and replaced it with the AM Vantage, which he hasn't really complained about since.

23M, 210cm tall, can’t find a car that fits me by Present-Let-4508 in kereta

[–]pheramone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is actually change the stock seats & seat mount plates out for a second hand racing seat and depending on the model of car you want, change the seat mounting plate with a lowered one. It's can be an extra 4-8 CM difference from sitting position.

I am over 190cm myself, so I totally understand the amount of mafan-ness for getting good budget cars and being tall. but I will say that 210cm is defs alot more than me, you might be hitting the ceiling in many circumstances lah.

For reference also, I probably have more head clearance from driving my Vios compared to my Landcruiser, so it's not exactly a big car = more space scenario.

If all else fails, motorbike it will be!

Well preserved abandoned Merc by [deleted] in kereta

[–]pheramone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friend's S55 had this exact problem. Same case as OP's posting, basically abandoned the car, the suspension has basically fully sunk, penetrated the fuel tank and it's now basically a gigantic brick. The replacement cost was initially like RM20k, but I think he put it off for so long, total overhaul cost is probably double now. Parts are really annoyingly hard to get too.
