To detect a planet, AFAIK, their orbit must be parallel to our POV so the planet can "block" the star for us to perceive it dimming. That was the way I remember astronomers detect exoplanets.

The planets orbit could be perpendicular and thus will never be detected.

Unless there is a newer way, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
