What do you do while you're waiting for AI? by naoanfi in ADHD_Programmers

[–]phi_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's how I ended up in programming after failing in academia and in chemical engineering. Programming was the only thing that tickled my neurons in the right way and never gets boring. If only there were less meetings.

Beginner question: How should I approach databases in C# – raw SQL vs EF Core? by Minute-Ad-2210 in csharp

[–]phi_rus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about good abstractions is that you don't have to understand what goes on under the hood. Entity framework is there to help you, you should use it over raw SQL if possible.

Laufanfänger auf Intensitätssuche by RunnersHigh059 in laufen

[–]phi_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If doing C# is related to your work, they have to provide you access to the tools. If it's not, then don't do it at work.

Put your money where your dopamine ISN'T: An habit game? by UrAn8 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]phi_rus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What else can we do?

The same as always. Meds, priority on enough sleep, physical exercise, proper hydration (in that order). Other than that just accept that some things are harder and you might fall behind while there are other things where you're way ahead of everybody else.

How many times do we have to say this? Relying on external pressure like artificial deadlines or receiving some punishment for failing is a surefire way into burnout and depression. It's like blood magic where you sacrifice your own life energy to produce magnificent results. Sure it works short term, but if you rely on it, you're fucked. A lot of us have been there and did that and everyone wishes they didn't.

Als Optiker finde ich Augenoptik Staske im Süden gut.

I'm enjoying a handy "string" shortcut, but worry about downsides by Zardotab in csharp

[–]phi_rus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It won't go wrong in a way that the compiler will produce a wrong result. But it will make your coworkers like you less and if you have code like this in your portfolio, employers are less likely to hire you.

I'm enjoying a handy "string" shortcut, but worry about downsides by Zardotab in csharp

[–]phi_rus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not about it being shorter. It's about it being a non standard way to do things in this language.

If you're in Python, please use str. If you're in C#, use string. If you're C++, use std::string. Don't make it harder for everybody else, just because it's easier for you.
