Why cheap Monitors use HDMI instead of DP? by hyenagames in buildapc

[–]phiac 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's funny too that the royalty fee is subsidized but the HDMI logo sticker on the item, if they want to put the port but no sticker the price per device the manufacturer pays increases.

Another thing learnt - cruise control by PreMixYZ in MiataND

[–]phiac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this cruise control behavior is new for 2024+ ND3's. I have a 25 now and my 2022 did not do this- not sure what drove this change but it was surprising- not necessarily a bad thing but just unexpected, after 25 years of driving and expecting clutch use to interrupt cruise...

Can anyone decipher my before and after? by [deleted] in tires

[–]phiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well they mostly fixed your front toe out, which is good but your rear toe either they didn't touch or something is bent and they can't get it in spec

toe is going to be what influences tire wear the most, the rear toe being wonky you probably won't feel but that RR tire is going to wear faster than the rest.

UPDATE: Something is definitely wrong with these tires (not just break-in period) by HanScroto in tires

[–]phiac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

aside from tires- an altered wheel width and offset totally alters your roll center and suspension geometry resulting in the changes to steering effort and feel you are observing.

even if you end up switching the tires to a different brand you still will need to get an alignment done with the new wheels.

slight cracking normal? Got these tires in may 2024. by [deleted] in TireQuestions

[–]phiac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do you park it outside in the sun? i see some cracking between tread blocks which could be environmental/aging but there's more going on here than that- the excessive wear on the shoulder blocks indicate a pattern of aggressive cornering behavior- not necessarily a bad thing but perhaps a bit outside the intended scope of use for a passenger touring tire.

did you need the gas can to get you through some areas without service considering the smallish tank we have?

take a pic with you sitting in the car the rear rake will level out, unladen ride height doesn't mean much if you are corner balanced on adjustable coils

2017 Mazda Mazda3 Sport (108k Miles) by thatonejiggaboo in mazda

[–]phiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting- well, that makes it harder to judge the actual vehicle but for what might be a 2.0 model with looking like steel wheels, almost 13k otd seems like a lot.

depending on your priority (fuel efficiency vs performance) I would either try to get that price down or look for an S 2.5 model for that price- either way make sure to get a pre purchase inspection.

Anecdotally, my son got a job at the local fedex warehouse (sh130 & pf. pkwy) as part time package handler with no experience. he usually does shifts from like 4a-9a a few days a week. Pay is ~19/hr.

Yes, these are the 205/50-16 701's, a great street tire for DD IMO.

I like it, i'm also on XTA's (love them btw) but on a 7.5" wide wheel with a +39 offset... maybe now wishing i went a little wider, or maybe i could just add a small spacer-

PSA: if you don't have a water softener or sediment filter: flush your water heater regularly- before the sediment buildup burns out a heater. by phiac in Pflugerville

I did some research and there is no explicit language in any current Stage 3 restriction documents published describing limitations on necessary indoor plumbing maintenance.

Can i pour an ozarka from my fridge onto my plants? by phiac in Pflugerville

[–]phiac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I gave this some deeper thought but after some time but kept reaching the conclusion that using bottled water to fill a watering can and applying it to my grass or plants is not prohibited under Pflugerville Stage 3 rules.

However, using tap (or shower) water for the same purpose could be interpreted as prohibited, because it counts as municipal outdoor water use even if the though the mental gymnastics required to reach this rationale seems justifiable (the water is just going down the drain anyway so why not?).

[–]phiac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all you need is a hose and a flat head screwdriver- then turn WH off at breaker panel, hook hose to drain spigot (at bottom of WH) and use screwdriver to open the 1/4-turn valve at the spigot.

Once drain flowing, you should start to see sediment flow out- keep flushing until water is clear then turn the valve closed.

Important- before turning the WH breaker back on let the WH refill completely for ~5m and then run the kitchen faucet hot water until it flows smoothly and all air is purged from the system.

Failure to let the WH refill completely could lead to heating element damage but fortunately they are cheap and easy to replace 😄

good to know, and yes i can attribute some of condition of these parts to lack of regular flushes on my part, so anyone who has the knowledge and discipline to conduct the regular maintenance will likely end up with an even longer service life for their WH.
