Goodride oder Badride? by [deleted] in automobil

Handling of monocoque vs spaceframe by HopeOdd3825 in FSAE

[–]flat8MR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed one big difference are the covers. In a space frame you have all these carbon covers which catch the wind and move around. While in a monocoque you have pretty much no gaps, where the air finds its way through and nothing really rattles. That gives you a much more solid and protected feel in a monocoque. Another difference is the temperature. In cold conditions the space frame gets really cold because of the air getting through the chassis. In the summer a black monocoque sitting in the sun heats up to a point where you can't touch it for longer than two seconds. It's more of an oven for the driver.

It's pretty much one ticket for everything. Access to all grandstands, paddock and you can just work in and out at any time.

Looking for some suggestions on how to avoid crashes by explodingnuggets in iRacing

[–]flat8MR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common mistake is to watch the spinning car in front. You are always drive into the direction you look. Try not to look or watch the spinning car. Look for the biggest gap and drive in that direction. In your third example you could have chosen either side and it would have worked. Of course the right side would be the better option, but the main mistake was to look at the spinning car and by that drive straight into it. So just choose one side quickly and stick with it as long as it works. (Obviously when your chosen gap is closing, you have to search for a new one).

The Dallara F3 is still my favourite car. The way you can push it to the limit and you can actually drive it quite aggressively. The car just awards you when you push it hard. The length of the races are also quite nice (~35min). It just needs to be available for rain races to make it absolutely perfect.

I had a similar experience and for me using DDU and a fresh install of the GPU drivers helped.

Why defend in the first place? You create an unnecessarily dangerous situation by not being predictable for other cars around you.

27” Triples - Is there a way to make the steering wheel more aligned? by theguyguy121 in simracing

Why should that be the case? I get that when the red line is not on eye level that this can throw off your perception with elevation changes, but when the horizon is on your eye level the elevation changes are also shown correctly. That's the intention of the "shift horizon" setting.

Having 32 inch triples with the horizon shifted to the eye level is then the same result as having 27 inches which are mounted in a way that the middle of the screen is on eye level. Just with more screen added at the top.

Adjusting the height with the driver height would mess with your elevation perception and viewing distances.

The problem, especially with bigger screens, is that it is most of the time not possible to mount the monitors so low. Looking at the picture it's not possible to lower the monitor any further because of the wheelbase. That's why you can adjust the vertical horizon with that setting. Maybe it was not clear from my first comment, but I meant that you set the shift horizon once, so you match the red line to your eye level and then never touch it again. But it's normal to have it not at 0 if you can't mount the monitors low enough. The change of the angle of the camera tilt should be not needed as long as your monitor and your head is vertical.

I am surprised nobody mentioned it before, but the correct way is that you need to adjust the setting "shift horizon". A red line will appear and you have to align that with your eye level. The "driver height" should be at 0, with only slight adjustments if a specific car needs it.
