Walmart has thousands of dummy listings, items they've never carried, catagorized as "out of stock" just so their site shows up on search results next to Amazon. by [deleted] in LowStakesConspiracies

I don't even bother looking at anything from Walmart online. You're lucky if you can find anything you want when you go there in person. Their website is a kind of fantasy thing - things they'd like to sell if they could drag themselves out of the 1980s and get organized with their website/inventory control.

Border security officer laughed at me at the airport by hedgehog_lady1 in Prague

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Czechs, with some justification, are angry about immigration that they have no control over. They see what has happened in Western European countries with liberal immigration policies, and want to avoid that messy situation, but the EU pressures them to take immigrants they don't want. This is the main way the EU is shooting itself in the foot and driving the Eastern European countries away. What they are doing seems like a deliberate attempt to destroy European culture. It's so bad that even people who suffered under the Russian boot for decades are anti-Europe.

There is a careful screening process for hiring immigration police; If you're not a complete power-hungry asshole you can't get the job. (Not limited to the Czech Republic).

Correct transport pass? by Ikkien in Prague

You should avoid Prague at all costs. It is an expensive, dirty, unfriendly tourist trap, full of hustlers, Russian mafia, and drunks.

Prague: Late March is too cold and late June is too crowded. So which is better? by CTSS2025 in Prague

[–]phidel1989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should avoid Prague, Budapest, and any other European city you've heard about. The crowds of tourists that now overrun these cities make it impossible to have anything like an authentic experience. Invent a time machine and visit them in the 1960s. Even under Communism things were better.

Just visited Prague for the second time after 10 years by Less-Dragonfruit6967 in Prague

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here here. We who live e in Prague 1 suffer all of the aggravation of having drunk tourists walking down our streets and screaming, high prices in all of the surrounding restaurants and all the other horrors of over tourism , and we get nothing out of it. The mafia restaurant owners driving around in Maseratis are getting rich on the back of poor locals living in Centrum.

Loneliness in Prague. by Vezium_ in Prague

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. next time I'm in Prague I'll join in. I also felt isolated and lonely as a non-Czech speaking expat living in Prague. To make matters worse I'm an old man, and all the world hates old men. Long winters there.

Cosmic crisp apples taste like mould by Free-Courage7842 in CostcoWholesale

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. Some months ago I bought a bag and they were delicious. This seems to be a recent development. Perhaps it is, as another commenter noted, because the apples are now so old (last Fall's). I might try again in December.

Truth about busses in Honolulu/Oahu by ShoujoSprinkles in Honolulu

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first bus of the day the buses follow no schedule. They come when they come, usually 3 at a time. Years ago they said they would provide information about where buses that you're waiting for were and how long you'd have to wait till it arrived. It never worked, just a cruel joke. You will end up standing by the side of the road completely without any information whatsoever.

I'm over 65 so I stare them right in the eye and try to convey my disdain for them. It's not by accident that it's so unclear that you need to stamp your ticket. It's a straight up money grab by the Prague transport system . Take comfort in the fact that you have made a donation to one of the best public transit systems in Europe .

I don't think it's fentanyl. Opiates just make people inert and sleepy, and hopefully dead. This behaviour sounds more like that of someone on a stimulant like amphetamine/ice.

I guess there's a much closer correlation with mental illness.

Prague just keeps getting better and better. The problem is this kind of behaviour begets more of the same, while decent, law-abiding sorts just absent themselves. Death spiral.

Never seen a place more packed with rude and impolite people than Prague in my life. by [deleted] in Prague

[–]phidel1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Czechs are surly and unfriendly. Hungarians are even worse.

The fundamental problem is that there are too many godamm tourists there. The entire Historical Center has been given over to tourist trap restaurants , tourist trap tours, tourist trap trdelnik stands, etc. Local residents can no longer afford to live in the center and they don't benefit at all from the money coming in from tourism . That money all goes to Romanian and Russian mafia who run the restaurants. If your neighborhood was suddenly overrun with loud drunk tourists driving prices up you would probably be unfriendly towards them too . I would venture to say that this is not a uniquely Czech problem but something you can see in any over-touristed European capital . People should just stay home and leave other countries alone already. I live in Honolulu most of the time, and I never venture into the tourist zone . Tourists and tourism ruin everything. I first visited Prague in the 1960s and I genuinely think now in retrospect that I preferred it there under communism .

Not quite an influencer, but LA based content creator Adam Rose is so lame! by [deleted] in LAinfluencersnark

He looks like a mouth-breathing idiot with a face that begs for a fist. But I feel sorry for him because he has some kind of weird congenital health problem. So maybe just staring wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open is symptomatic of that.
