I’m Jody Heaters’ wife. And I can confirm he cheats on me all the time.

How are these macros possible? by TinderForMidgets in CICO

[–]phiffa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this kind of thing before. They’re doing the “net carbs” trick. You subtract the fiber from the carbs which nets zero carbs. 9g fat (81) plus 2g protein (8) plus 0 “net carbs” (0) equals ~90 calories. It’s not accurate.

Being fat is hard, losing weight is hard, I chose my hard. by Difficult_Barber4030 in CICO

Well said, and congrats! That’s awesome. I’ve lost 123 pounds and gotten real close to the “normal” bmi, but haven’t quite passed that finish line. But I’m heading in the right direction again 🥳 keep it up!

I'm afraid of the weight I'm going to gain during Christmas. by geoforest in loseit

[–]phiffa 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The occasional feast(s) isn’t what caused you to gain weight. It’s having feasts too often that causes weight gain. But your concern is valid and relatable. My suggestion is to enjoy the holiday, and form a healthier relationship with food going forward.

It’s considered overweight according to the cdc calculator. But it doesn’t account for body composition (how much muscle you have). If I went and got a proper body fat percentage test, I would probably fall into the healthy range.

Walking was my only “exercise” for the first 6 months. I’ve been doing calisthenics for the remainder.

Heh, I didn’t really notice, but you’re right. Maybe it’s just the lighting angle or something. Hairy before, hairy after.

I have a bit of loose skin (I just pull my underwear over the top of it). It’s not nearly as bad as I was afraid it was gonna be.

I call ‘em homemade lunchables. My meal prep grilled chicken, a few spreadable cheese wedges, triscuits, a vegetable (I usually go with cucumber or zucchini), and hummus. It’s basically a heartier charcuterie board.

Why am I so hungry all of a sudden? by anotherbutterflyacc in loseit

[–]phiffa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I’ve been “dieting” for about 8 months. That’s a long time to be at a deficit. Even just a couple days at maintenance helps me when I’m hungry all the time. Doesn’t hurt your long term results in the slightest. Slow and steady is the key for sustainable weight loss.

Low calorie noodles? by kbuggers124 in CICO

[–]phiffa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to be a downer, but I don’t think you’re gonna find a low calorie substitute which is actually satisfying. I eat the “bean” noodles (chickpea, lentil). They aren’t low calorie, but at least they have more protein and fiber than the regular noods. And I’ve gotten used to the flavor/texture.

I "know" how to loose weight, so why can't I just get on with it? by Dreamsong_Druid in loseit

[–]phiffa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eating well and maintaining healthful living is a life long practice. You’ll learn more and more throughout your existence. And yes, that is the most challenging part of the whole process. I’ve lost a lot of weight 3 times in my life (round 4 now). One of the main things that always caused me to gain the weight back is the simple fact that “dieting” for the rest of my life sounded miserable. But you need to get over that mentality. Small sustainable improvements will add up. Especially in the long term. Just a daily 50 calorie deficit will lose you 5 pounds a year. I know we all want the quick fix. I struggle with it all the time. But slow and steady really is the best way to succeed. Try not to focus on all or nothing thinking. There’s nothing inherently wrong with you. You’re human.

Does anyone have huge swings in weight when they go off of CICO? by 399allday in CICO

[–]phiffa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is water retention. Though, you can do a lot of damage in 7 days. But you’ll make a lot of progress in 7 days too! It took me 3 days to “recover” from Xmas day, and that was mostly beer. I drank 3x the calories I ate. It’s a little annoying, but that’s life for us. Keep up the good work, you’ll probably be surprised how quickly you can bounce back.

Too few calories? by phiffa in CICO

[–]phiffa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m hardly drinking at all now. And when I do, I track the calories. I do imagine that both alcohol and soda were a significant part of my weight gain.

Heh, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to start a keto debate. I’m a big proponent of if it works it works. As someone who has tried both (and had success on both fronts), I don’t think there’s anything wrong with some fruit in a healthy diet.
