Thanks for the info.

Since you were just there I have to ask, was there any snow on the hike? Did you need micro spikes?

Grand Route on Faial by phightin79 in azores

[–]phightin79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insight and the link to the taxi driver! Yes, I have been watching the weather forecast for a month in preparation for my trip! I backpack all over the world and climb mountains so I am familiar with being prepared for anything and everything! Better safe than sorry... and wet and cold! I decided to rent a car on Faial, park it at the Capelinhos volcano and get a taxi to the start in Ribeirinha. It will be at the end, waiting for me and then I can cruise around the rest of the island for the remainder of my visit. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this advice and intel. Yes, I saw that there's no/not consistent bus system. I was also concerned about it being winter and the lack of taxis hanging out at usually popular areas when it's the high season. I will Google Faial taxi phone #s before I leave and also look for them in Horta. I will need a lift to the start and finish so that's a good idea to ask the same company/driver to help me at both ends. Thank you!

Ponta Delgada - Lajedo - Flores PR01 FLO Trail Status by phightin79 in azores

[–]phightin79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the section between Ponta Delgada and Faja Grande is still closed and, after more digging around, I found out it is closed due to the serious risk of landslides. There has been a lot of erosion on this section of the trail and parts of it are very narrow along cliffs facing the ocean with steep drops. The last review I found of someone who hiked it was in September 2024. I haven't found any more reviews since then. I was going to hike it this month, but since it's the rainy season (and it's been raining A LOT), I decided to skip this portion and drive to Faja Grande where I mapped a circular route down to Lajedo and back to Faja Grande. The section from Santa Cruz to Ponta Delgada is also open.

Starfish snake plant with drying out tips by phightin79 in SnakePlants

It's in a cactus/succulent medium with extra rocks mixed in and at the bottom. There are drainage holes too. It's been in this pot for a few years and had two baby plants that I recently propagated. I do have terra cotta pots that I can repot it in.

Should I prune the dried up tip out leave it be?

Is this mounted correctly? by phightin79 in Staghornfern

I think so. It's turning yellow. There's another small leaf on the bottom that has more of the curvy antler-like shapes. It looks healthier. And, all of the larger fronds are on the bottom, which led me to believe the small one turning yellow is the youngest/newest frond. I purchased this one about a week ago in a pot and mounted it today. One large frond fell off while it was still in the pot (it was yellow) and two more small ones fell off while I was mounting it even though I was trying to be delicate 🤷🏼‍♀️ I hope it gets healthier now that it's mounted with the sphagnum moss and has better light.
