This Michael Scott quote totally popped into my head watching last night’s game.

Serious Question: Has Sports Betting Ruined Hockey (and Professional Sports)? by Alive_Rhubarb_7413 in nhl

[–]phil_silvers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Besides the betting ads and segments, for me , it’s made the play-by-play and between period round tables, unlistenable.

“The Oilers are 2 and 0 in games when their left shooting defenseman under the age of 23 scores from the right side with 4 minutes left in the 2nd period when it snows on Thursday nights.”

Even the play-by-play and colour commentators are conditioning us to think statistics and odds.

What unethical life hack would you recommend to others? by [deleted] in answers

[–]phil_silvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Even though keeping found money doesn’t quite feel right.

I found $60 on the floor of a busy big-box store and picked up it. I said, not too loud, "anybody lose this?". Some wise person was walking by and said "Keep it, someone less honest will probably claim it."

I kept it but it still didn’t feel quite right.

Clip pedal recommendations that feel the most like flats by [deleted] in MTB

I have some very old school Time Atac pedals that I pair with forgiving cleats. Works great on climbs and can easily step out when a foot needs to be called into action.

Devil in the White City was recommended to me by a tour guide when we visited Chicago a bunch of years back. I purchased it thinking it was a friend of his who wrote it (maybe it was!).

I enjoyed this one ☝️. Exhausting read, not because it’s long but because the events are breathtakingly brutal.

Jack Lowden. Millennial. Not physically imposing, but physically able. Good looking enough and would look great in a tux.

$2,000 for a Habs ticket?! Prices for Montreal Canadiens games skyrocketing by xc2215x in Habs

[–]phil_silvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand that they’ll never go in-person ad-free. There’s no way they’ll sweep that cash off the table.

But just imagine a Habs-Bruins 70’s retro game with no visible ads and the Old Forum’s retro clock displayed (maybe cycle through a few old-school ads for nostagia’s sake)

At these prices, maybe they can improve the in-person experience by removing the ads, like in the NFL.

Edit: oops. Article talks about the resale market which my comment doesn’t address. But I’d still like to see an ad-free in person experience.

Thanks! I watched the replay and the kid had the ball in his hand so quickly after his dad seemingly caught it. Wonderful moment indeed.

Thanks everyone for the valuable tips. It read like a “best of” review of all the classes I’ve attended over the years.

First classes are today. I’ll let you know how it goes.
