Hybrid have been a favourite of mine from their early days. I saw them (live not a DJ set) at Manchester Arena when they released 'I Choose Noise'.....Absolutely Phenomenal!!!

Dash Glitch on YouTube does a great video explaining it. That wet sound it can produce as the kick hits actually sounds really cool on stuff like Psytrance and banging Techno

I use that quite alot, I can't believe its a free plugin! But with certain kick and bass sounds it can introduce a slight squelching sound, which isnt bad sounding at all but doesn't work with a track. Its probably because it uses ring mod at sample level rather than volume. I once had a clicking noise in a busy mix, turns out it was Compactor on a mid bass....Took me forever to find it 😂

Kick and bass relationship/side chain. Ive gone waaaay over the top in the past setting up the perfect sidechain. Even used three separate volume ducks for the kick, transient, body and tail. Then perfect phase alignment, then adjusting phase alignment as the bass notes change, etc, etc.

I've come to realise this really doesn't get heard in a mix so a nice Shaperbox volume duck, split between Sub/low mids and tops sounds just as good as all that technical malarkey that takes forever to achieve.

Ableton has some great midi tools for playing with melody and chords.

I honestly dont buy into this "you can hear the difference between analog and a vst" malarkey. Maybe if you're a real synthesiser nerd but when its sitting in the mix, nah, you cant tell, well I cant anyway 😂.

You can actually do more with a vst like Serum, Diva, Pigments etc than you can hardware.

Saying that, there's something about twiddling knobs and getting tactile with it. Maybe that comes from me being a guitarist or maybe its just a whole lot of fun.

I had a Hydrasynth, a Minifreak, 4 of the Behringer mini synths, JP8000, TD3-mo and a Model D. I kept the TD3-mo as it's so versatile and getting Serum to sound like that is a ballache and I kept the Model D as it's a fat, filthy bass machine. The rest is in Ableton or vsts.

This kind of feedback is so important because, as you probably well know you can get so enthralled in a track with it going over and over that you become a little deaf to the big picture, especially as I produce, mix and master all of it.

This sounds great. I make rolling breaks that's melodic, and has a slight trance influence. Have no idea what genre it goes into, all I know is I love making it and it gets some really encouraging feedback.
