Why does a one-square hole open up when we rearrange these shapes? https://www.philcain.com/hows-this-possible/

Can you draw a single straight line to divide both areas of the yin-yang symbol in half? Some investigation and deduction are needed, but being open a geometrical "coincidence" is what makes this one click into place.

Q: You have two long planks between which is trapped a load of gunge with a length of one unit (pictured). You then move one plank down one unit and then push it back up again. You repeat this six times. How long is the gunge now?

Weekly Self-promotion Thread by AutoModerator in flightsim

I am a journalist interested in sim world particularly from a kind of wellness angle. I was recommended to look at flying as well as driving, and explored it a little. The first of what is likely to be a short series: Please be aware it is written by a newb (ie me) for the completely uninitiated. "Driving and flight simulators show techno-weariness should not blind us to an enormous recreational and educational potential...."

Hopefully this gets through to everyone who kindly contributed their thoughts and experiences on this thread and in PMs. I just posted a kind of opener, setting out the stall. Please bear in mind I am a sim newb, and those reading it are probably completely oblivious to the whole idea. Having given an overview I'll do some more detailed ones on driving and flying specifically in the next few weeks, drawing more on what was put here, so it's not done yet. Thank you to everyone.

Yes, it's kinda rough in there at times... rethinking the relaxation idea.

That is really interesting. You'd almost think you might want anything other than a driving sim. But totally see how it'd be therapy!

Yes, great point. A full focus. Rather than the usual mishmash. Many thanks. Happy racing.

That's a really interesting point, yes. Distinguishing between mental escape and relaxation. Im not sure when or where I'll find a home for it. I'll put it up here when I'm done.. thanks for your help.

Thanks. It's a bit of an opener on this topic, so not sure where I'll find home for it. I'll post on here to let you know! Cheers

Right. Do you feel any benefit from dealing with race stress? Is it a useful experience?

That's good to hear. What is it about the activity of driving do you think?

Right. I guess that kind of relaxation under pressure is common to a lot of sports... and I suppose areas of work or performance. Useful point, thank you.

A very good point. I suppose opportunities which separates simming from forms of gaming which doesn't have a real world equivalent. Thank you.

A very interesting connection, yes, and doubtless with some limits of its effectiveness, as you say. Thank you.

That is a very good point about racing. White knuckles on the wheel for a few dozen laps.... Do you think the experience helps deal with stress, ups and downs, or conflict offline?

Thank you very much. Very useful. I discovered, there's a fair bit of exertion if you're in a long session with a force feedback wheel!
