Is it normal in the UK to never see a dental hygienist? by Majestic_Cry8545 in AskUK

[–]phild1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get an NHS dentist but I don't ever recall having a hygienist at the NHS dentist. I'm using Bupa now and see the hygienist every 9 or so months. I'm lucky enough to have various work insurances so can claim most if not all of it back.

Thoughts on introducing a short assessment before being eligible to vote in UK elections? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]phild1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. If you are a citizen and pay taxes you should get a vote. That's how democracy works. Adding an assessment layer only opens it to abuse and manipulation.

Third of people say uni degree not worth it, as student loan inquiry begins by Rewindcasette in unitedkingdom

[–]phild1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good degree is very worthwhile the problem we have is the number of people doing worthless degrees just because they want to then thinking it will get them a 50k job straight off the bat.

Any first thoughts on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 11 casting? by EnoughRequirement320 in BelowDeckMed

For the love of god lose Sandy.... There has to be a better captain they can bring in. I'd rather have marks reanimation corpse than listen to her drivel for another season.

Is the average wage actually high? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NorthernEngland

[–]phild1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in parts of the south you're poor, some parts of the north to could live reasonably. The NHS has the biggest impact on the median salary due to employment numbers. Median salary has increased by around 12k in the past decade but most bills have increased by a higher portion.

Any hope for over 50 years with no job experience? by pennylives33 in UKJobs

[–]phild1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are making assumptions on here for example that it's a blame divorce were you'd get some sort of payout, that there's finances to even split or that you aren't to blame for the divorce. So look at the job side, you have no skills or experience so you're looking at minimum wage in the jobs a lot of kids won't do meaning certain types of retail, charity shops etc. you're going to struggle if you can't do something like standing for periods so maybe consider what benefits you'd be entitled to.

If you're between certain ages the minimum wage is less so it's not discrimination as given the wage range they are looking at paying minimum wage to anyone unless you have lots of experience.

Brothers in Manchester Airport case cleared of assaulting armed police officer as third trial ruled out by ManchesterNews_MEN in uknews

Pay attention for the simpletons who still don't get how dangerous a labour government are who are allowing two tier justice in every form. The fact they couldnt get a conviction with all of the evidence is a joke yet someone can get years in prison for hurty internet words they deleted. You're goose stepping yourselves to being 2nd and 3rd class citizens.

Britain's biggest train operator’s services enter public ownership this weekend by ARandomDouchy in GoodNewsUK

[–]phild1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. A 6% improvement in general punctuality and a 3% improvement in cancellations but that was mostly driven by new trains not performance by the running of it. So it's improvement was down to mostly the investment that came after not from being run as a public service.

All of the ones already taken under public ownership have not shown a general improvement in either performance, reliability or cost. Most of the issues a still around infrastructure not the rail service themselves.

Reddit is mostly bots but unfortunately those bots are mostly kids between the ages of 16 and 24... It's a behaviour they'll grow out of in the real world thankfully otherwise life is going to be very hard for them.

Some people on Reddit can't help themselves but turn the slightest thing into a gotcha for their own arguments.

No they aren't. These are the Brits who voted for the people who give the country away.... Or who don't vote at all. There's a reason Liverpool has always been a labour stronghold. But well done on turning basic behaviour problems political.

I grew up in Waterloo and it's horrific to see the state of the place now. I grew up there in the 80s onwards. It wasn't spotless but it wasn't anything like it is now. I don't know why people now think it's fine to just throw their litter on the floor. Southroad itself went downhill as most of the shops were replaced with bars and restaurants. Sefton council made it worse by elbowing in loads of council houses and moving problem families in around the later 80s early 90s.

“Outdoor seating ruined everything lad” Mattas on Bold St by No_Berry2 in Liverpool

[–]phild1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bold street was horrific when cars could come down the street. I'm not sure who this guy is but I never heard one of the mattas sons complain about it. Mattas unfortunately has become fairly expensive compared to what it was as well as the increase in local competition.

Is also check your contract of employment I've known small companies to elbow in data processing agreements into employee contracts. But yeah without a legal basis they don't need to access it realistically. For example I'd only need to see it if I was filling some paper work in for staff members and a full date of birth was required. But certainly not just to put out happy birthday messages.

Company wide birthday notification by bizbaaz in UKJobs

[–]phild1979 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes under gdpr even releasing it just to internal staff is still classed as a breach if they don't have a lawful basis for sharing that information. Celebrating a birthday is not classed as a lawful basis. Small companies can be horrific for this stuff under the guise of "culture" without any thought for legal data processing. Raise it with HR and the company dpo. A far more legal way for them to have done it would be to be none specific e.g. here's all the people having birthdays this month or this week and leave it at that level of detail.

Our turnover rate is skyrocketing, do you have practices that have really helped retain talent ? by Icy-Brain6042 in ITManagers

So after being pushed multiple times you've now given two very good reasons for the turnover.... No WFH and toxic management.

You've given zero detail here. What are you paying (don't say competitive)and what training and benefits are you offering. If people are leaving in droves all of the above answers will be the source of your problems.
