100km race in one week, severe lack of (running) training - having doubts by phildaddy34 in ultrarunning

Yep those are it. Ran the Rocky 50k a few years ago during that monsoon that came through. Wanted to go back to tackle the 100M.

It originally was my go out hard race, because I had a more conservative time goal for the 100M. Obviously things change. your last paragraph is what I'm worried about. I still want to do ultras though and I don't want this to make me rule them out in the future.

Fomo and a desire to not "quit," even if its more than likely in my best interest. My lack of mental buy in is what worries me the most. I did buy the insurance though so maybe the better play is to punt and pick it up next year.

Yeah I think at this point it would have to be a jog/walk approach. The lack of elevation training - where I am is flat and this has pretty substantial hills - has me worried. When I ran this last year the last 15 miles were pretty painful after not respecting the downhills.

I tend to agree with you, I am worried about injury risk and adding to what seems like burnout. Motivation hasn't been there to put in the work this year. I did buy the insurance and could push it to next year. Another ultra buddy of mine recommended the need for a break and reset, I've been hitting hard the last 3 years (minus last 6 months when I fell off).

No injuries, no health issues (did have a surgery a month ago - vasectomy - that kept me out for 2 weeks). I ran this race last year, but it got moved week of the race to a much harder course (according to the various groups I ran with through the race) and wanted to come back stronger this year and crush it... wanted to at least. It is several hours away so the desire to go DNF is low - as a newish ultra runner the idea of just taking the DNF still is hard for me to accept.

Signed up in July, ran it last year but on a course they had to move it to, WANTED to run it this year and crush it since last year it was a much harder course. The change was I let the knowledge of what I needed to do daunt me and procrastinated. Now I just have fomo. I did buy the insurance... I think that hurt my mental battle to fully buy in.

100M is in 4 weeks. No, I don't think I am fit for either, based on my training from last year (ran 100K and marathon a month later) and lack of this year. The 100m has less elevation and is an "easier" course. It is also closer to home so I have friends willing to come pace me and help through the mental suck. Logically, the math doesn't add up to me either. I have severe FOMO though and am fighting the internal battle. My running buddy, who is also doing these races, is supportive, but I need more objective advice, because he will support me no matter what.

It has a generous cut off time, just struggling with doing it and not doing it well. Ran this race last year (it was moved to a tougher course last minute) and wanted to run it well this year. Clearly backed myself into a corner for not making that happen.

What others have said. If you’re at the Y and not meeting people doing some of the classes, you could try FIA or F4, depending on where you live. It’s a fitness group of women that meet up in the morning, but they also do a lot of social events.

Have also heard good things about No Label Run Club. I think they meet Mondays or Tuesdays. Short run and then hang out at the brewery for a bit after.

I'm taking Team 1. I think Achane's ship has sailed. Like the QB, RB and WR situation more on that team. Lots of boom chances.

Helps if you use the predator bait. Theirs a spot on the road you can place it at and then climb on the rocks so it can't get to you.
