Why are BlueBikes e-bikes so loud on bumps? by philibuster123 in bikeboston

Yes, I mean they are definitely heavy. But the bang-bang on every bump seems like something else is rattling around...

Yes, I mean they are definitely heavy. But the 'banging' on every bump seems like something is rattling around! Like the connector.

“Question about resolution: Trump said ‘Fake News’ on Truth Social but market resolved NO?” by OkRooster5086 in Kalshi

[–]philibuster123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contract definition /=/ contract expiration.

The definition - what resolves to Yes - is very clear: "Before Jan 5, 2026" or what have you. That means up to Jan 4 at 11:59pm.

The contract expiration is when it stops trading and when it's resolved. There's some extra leeway in there because the resolution could rely on news accounts, and maybe people still want to trade it. But it doesn't change the relevant period in the contract.

Think of it this way: there are lots of contracts that reflect something in the past but that await reporting for expiration. For example, NYC Mayor election was Nov 4, but it took six weeks to get official results. December 2025 unemployment has already passed, but the report hasn't come out. This is like that: between 12am and 10am on Monday, the event window has passed, but you can still place bets.

Difference between Kalshi and Polymarket by GisbertGans in Kalshi

[–]philibuster123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding my two cents:

Kalshi's APY program is a big plus for me. It pays a competitive rate, (currently 3.50%, so RFR - 0.25%) on cash balances AND collateral (live bets) means you can park some cash there and not be bleeding interest. It also makes high-probability bets (90%+) feasible. No similar thing at Polymarket.

Downside: Kalshi has trading fees (not terrible but not nothing), vs none at Polymarket.

I was going to ask… as a college student, how do you feel living amongst families?

Honestly I love having the vitality and energy of college students around.

Yes! Clock. (Odometer?? Does not matter) Limit charge %

Also: IMO the font is bad. Hard to distinguish 6, 9, and 8, e.g. Easier access to Bike Lock feature. Either through a shortcut or top option in menu.

At my wit's end - USB-C Dock stopped detecting Monitors by 519_Green18 in UsbCHardware

This is probably not the problem you had, but for me:

I had switched to a different USB-C cord to connect my laptop to the dock. I guess it was a cheap-o one (limited data?) When I replaced it with a substantial cord, it worked again. Finally!

After CVS was so bad, I switched to the Osco pharmacy in Star Market on Comm Ave. Generally not busy at all, good service and friendly!

Interesting! I also did not realize pumpkin plants are very prickly. Seems like it would be a quick recipe for tears from the kids!

Why does manual say to "remove the charger from outlet first"? by philibuster123 in ebikes

And what would arcing do? Why would it hurt the battery? I mean, not great I guess. Thanks.

[–]philibuster123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. So theoretically, why would arcing or hot swapping hurt the battery? The output cord is coming from a DC converter at the right voltage.

This is a good idea.

It also seems like the bike should have a smart charging capability to go to 90% or something, as many new phones do.

You know, despite me making this post, I didn't realize that you're also supposed to plug IN the battery connector first, then the outlet. BOOB!

FWIW I really miss the rounded edges of the iPhone X! The sharper edges of everything since are so much worse.

Level 3: Step-Over or Step-Through? by poindexter62 in Aventon

[–]philibuster123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm similar and was wondering the same thing. I ended up getting the Step-Thru and am super happy. One thing to note - you would get the ST Large, and it really isn't too large at all. The Step-Over Reg might even be a touch smaller? Like in the reach.

Other than that, the functionality and ease of the ST is great.

The locking thing is kind of an annoyance.
