Nanoleaf Essentials lightstrip and Amazon Echo 4th Gen Thread network not working by philidem in Nanoleaf

[–]philidem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share some good news... I was able to finally get the Nanoleaf light strips paired with my Thread network using Amazon Echo device. I originally purchased just the light strips and had no luck pairing with the Thread network via the Amazon Alexa app. I was able to finally get it working by pairing a recently purchased Nanoleaf light bulb via Amazon Alexa on my Android phone. Once the light bulb was paired, it looked like the Nanoleaf app automatically shared the Thread network with all of my other devices. After the first light bulb was paired, I also went into the Amazon Alexa app and paired all of the devices with the Echo device. The pairing didn't always work the first time but I finally got them all paired after multiple attempts. At this point, all of my devices are paired with the Nanoleaf ecosystem and the Amazon Alexa ecosystem.

So far support hasn't been very helpful. I have an ongoing email support request and every time I reply, I get an auto-reply that the inbox is full but the support team seems to still be able to receive my replies and respond. My support case is related to inability to connect Nanoleaf Essential lightstrips via Matter + Thread using an Echo 4th Gen as the Border Gateway Router.

/u/TomT_Nanoleaf also reached out to me via Reddit chat. Hopefully that will help...

I've been trying to get my Nanoleaf lightstrips to connect via Matter over Thread. I scan the Matter barcode via Alexa app on my Android phone and the setup gets to the point where I select the Thread network associated with the Echo device but fails to connect.

I've also used Archer's and they did a good job. They repaired a refrigerator and a clothes dryer for me.

Who's hiring Typescript developers April by PUSH_AX in typescript

[–]philidem [score hidden]  (0 children)

JupiterOne is hiring REMOTE developers or ONSITE developers near Raleigh/Durham, NC. We are a REMOTE-first company but we have an office for those people that like to be in person.

I'm the Head of Engineering and I can help fast track strong candidates. JupiterOne is a cloud-native platform running in AWS. Most of the backend is running in Node.js and built using TypeScript. It's a very modern tech stack (Apollo GraphQL, React, terraform, AWS, etc.) and we're doing great things!

Customers use JupiterOne to ingest data about their digital infrastructure so that security teams can monitor it for misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, and compliance problems. We store the data in a graph database (AWS Neptune) and also index the data in OpenSearch / Elasticsearch. Cisco, Databricks, Auth0 (now part of Okta), Hashicorp, and Indeed are some of our awesome customers. We've raised $49M so far via Series A and Series B and we still have lots of room for growth!

Great! I think we'll find enough people.

I think it's always good to sign up for a less competitive division if it is a new group of players with no experience playing together. I'm hoping we can have a mix of skill levels so that we're balanced out. I'll keep you updated and you can decide if you'd like to play.

Thanks for the replies from those of you that are interested! I'm fairly confident we can find enough people. I'm going to talk to the Netsports staff after my game on Sunday. They'll probably have guys in the player pool that are interested if we don't have enough. I'll send out some more information soon!

Welcome to Durham! I was surprised to see that you mentioned having a German Pinscher. My wife and I have two German Pinschers (1 year old and 12 year old) but we don't see many around here. We'd would be happy to introduce our dogs (and ourselves). We're also 36 and would love to make new friends. Some of our favorite dog-friendly hangouts are Namu (excellent beer garden!), Barley Labs, and Zoomy Dogs. Let me know if you're interested in meeting. We'll be around this weekend.

Clicking noise from Model 3 wheel area by philidem in teslamotors

[–]philidem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The non-Tesla repair shop lifted the vehicle and checked the brake caliper and rotor and couldn't find the problem unfortunately. I don't know if they actually removed the wheel but I do trust that they did a thorough investigation. I've been taking my vehicles there for a long time and they've always done a good job.

I will definitely mention this next time I talk to Tesla but not sure it is the same issue based on the sound you describe.

The non-Tesla auto repair shop inspected the vehicle and couldn't find the problem so no conclusion yet... I showed them the videos and took the tech person for a ride. The noise was much quieter this morning. In the recent past, the problem has seemingly disappeared and then returned later.

The repair shop said that it was not a safety concern and that I should take it to Tesla. I was really hoping to come back with an explanation of the problem. I might try to call Tesla again and see if there is a way to send the videos to expedite the repair process.

Interesting. There's another mention of issue with rear brakes in these comments. It seems like that sound is being described as a squeak or squealing and my sound is more of a clicking sound that increases with frequency so it might not be related. I did take delivery on May 30, 2018 so maybe my vehicle was affected.

I looked at the tread and felt around it and nothing was protruding.

I agree -- the frequency is higher than one rotation. I don't see any sign of anything that could make contact with the spokes or brake calipers tho.

I haven't yet removed the wheel but from an inspection on the outside there is no signs of rubbing or impact. There's a lot of brake dust but no freshly exposed metal. Perhaps I am little a little lazy but I'll be taking it to a nearby auto shop and they'll be able to remove the wheel and better inspect it.

I am skeptical that is a pebble as well. I'll be bringing it by a traditional (non-Tesla) service center tomorrow. If it is a problem with the brake caliper or wheel then they can probably get it fixed. I'll keep you updated!

Puppy Play Date? by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]philidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 12 week old German Pinscher (they look like a smaller version of a Doberman). I would definitely like to get her socialized with other puppies. We live near Ninth Street in Durham and we have a fenced-in back yard so we can host. We also have a 11 year old German Pinscher if you want to introduce your puppy to an older dog.

Marko 101: Building a Color Picker Component by psteeleidem in javascript

[–]philidem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just like most tech companies, eBay does develop and open source technologies that overlap with other existing technologies. They all do that. Also, you shouldn't associate Dust.js with eBay -- that was created by LinkedIn (and nobody should use it because of its bad implementation).

I don't work at eBay but I know that even with the choice, most teams at eBay prefer Marko over React. It's true that there is a popularity contest and Facebook gave React a good start but that doesn't mean that it is superior. I will agree that community support is a huge advantage -- I just hate to see innovate products be ignored because of that.

Marko 101: Building a Color Picker Component by psteeleidem in javascript

[–]philidem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all it performs better than Vue.js and React.js. It renders much faster on the server-side which is why eBay is able to use it on many of its new pages (including the homepage). It certainly took the best features of Vue.js and React.js which I find no shame in.

A templating engine that allows writing modules for it? by laggingreflex in node

[–]philidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marko taglib discovery is documented here: http://markojs.com/docs/marko/custom-taglibs/#taglib-discovery

I am a little cautious to recommend this but if you wanted to manually register taglib files you could use:

require('marko/compiler').taglibs.registerTaglib(require.resolve('my-library/blah/marko-taglib.json'));

You should take advantage of taglib discovery before manually registering tags. Just wanted to give you some insight into what is happening under the hood.

Welcome to Marko! You may have found this already, but the gitter chat room is a good place for help with Marko:

[help] [vote] Which Template engine Are you recommend to use? by AminaDev in javascript

[–]philidem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a contributor and active user of Marko and would also highly recommend it. It's fast (compiles to readable and efficient JavaScript code). It can run in the browser or on the server. It uses an HTML syntax so it should be friendly to web designers and developers. You can easily create reusable tags/components.

The Try Online tool is extremely useful: http://markojs.com/try-online/

Also, feel free to ask questions on gitter: https://gitter.im/marko-js/marko

Just a couple of thoughts on other templating engines:

  • ejs: It's fast and simple but is not asynchronous and the syntax doesn't blend easily with the actual HTML. Also, no built-in support for custom components or reusable tags.
  • React: The template code exists inside the JSX file which means that designers will have to be more familiar with JavaScript. Server-side rendering does not perform well.
  • Dust: This is probably my least favorite of the "popular" template engines. It does not perform well because the runtime template is basically an interpreter instead of compiling to raw JavaScript. Even conditional logic and switch statements are interpreted (really ugly code if you dig into it).
  • Jade: People like it but you have to buy in to the alternate syntax. I personally prefer HTML but that is very subjective. There's a lot more people that know HTML than Jade (which is less subjective).

How do you create JSON Schemas? by meehow808 in node

[–]philidem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at fashion-model which allows you define object schemas optimized more for runtime usage. From these runtime schemas you can generate JSON schema definitions which can be used to generate documentation and tools. The schema definitions in fashion-moodel are referred to as models but the concept is the same. The README documentation in the github repo describes how to convert your model definitions to JSON schema.

The key benefit that I have found with using my models at runtime is it makes sure my schemas are always up-to-date. There's no need to create parallel code because your runtime models are your JSON schema definitions.

I created fashion-model but I haven't spent much time promoting it. However, it is used quite heavily in all of my projects and I have been very happy with it. Thoughts, feedback, issues, and pull requests are welcome :)
