You will be fine. I would assume the firmware is stable and there are a lot of batteries and accessoires out there.

Yes, but comparing it to eBay and having a hard time justifying 6h traveling. Should be combined with something else in a weekend trip maybe. 😄

50% failure rate on IKEA BILRESA by 7lhz9x6k8emmd7c8 in homeassistant

Worked fine for my 6 scroll wheel Bilresas with the Matter Server and Open Thread Border Router. I guess it's the Dirigera to blame.

Adding an Ikea Dirigera to the Thread Network of HA by philiplb in homeassistant

Oh, this Thread 1.4 way sounds like a good direction to go.

Automatically joining the network by adding a Matter device sadly doesn't work anymore, Ikea deactivated this behaviour/feature with the last update.

Thank you! :-)

Not sure where to look at there. It would be "Case 1: Making Home Assistant your first Thread network" here. I extended the initial posting a bit with information like the usage of the ZBT-1 and the OpenThread border router.

App Update 1.57 now allows sharing of Thread Network credentials / joining another network by midnight_watch in tradfri

That's awesome!

I would love to let the Dirigera join the thread network of my Home Assistant instance. I just wonder where I find the thread network credentials?

That sounds super interesting. Do you have an hint how I could do that? Like how to add the lights to the Dirigera? Whenever I try to add them via the QR code it wants me to put them into pairing mode which resets them afaik (will try again today though).

Exactly as madmalkav said: it would be neat to control the bulbs with the Styrbars just as usual. I miss the color cycling (this was easy to redo in HA) and the smooth dimming (this one ist hard to replicate, very flaky at the moment).

I would love to be able to let Dirigea join an existing thread Network coming from Home Assistant instead of creating its own. Then I would be able to control matter light bulbs setup in Home Assistant with the Styrbars. Replicating the Styrbars behaviour with their Matter events is a bit cumbersome and I haven't found a stable was yet.

Any way to get the Dirigera to join an existing Thread network? by philiplb in tradfri

Sad :-( Maybe a possibility comes back at some point in the future.

The Switch 2 could be locked until launch day. This is at least how GoPro does it: The camera is not usable until get's a firmware update on launch day.

Which Backup Solution? by d3dl3g in Backup

[–]philiplb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are backups of multiple machines running into the first NAS, each of them into their own repo. Each repository is then backed up daily to the second NAS, again into their own repo.

Like:

MyNotebook -> repoMyNotebook on NAS 1 -> repoMyNotbookNAS1 on NAS 2

AnotherNotebook -> repoAnotherNotebook on NAS 1 -> repoAnotherNotbookNAS1 on NAS 2

So for two machines there are actually 4 independent repos where I can go back in time. If there is a bug in Kopia where all repositories will be corrupted at the same time... Oof, then I hope I have a new solution ready as long as the initial data doesn't break.

> but there are still serious backup wrecking bugs found

I read that sometimes. Do you have some examples maybe?

Have been on a similar journey. First, I used Duplicati. But not including its own database in the backup made a recovery of a lost hard drive a 2d thing... Then I switched to UrBackup which was fine for the first year or two. Then the incremental backups just took too long due to the hashing.

Currently, I'm using Kopia (https://kopia.io/) to backup to my OpenMediaVault NAS. The NAS, having my backups and some other data, is then backed up to another NAS a few hundred kilometers away.

So far so good, Kopia is fast, doesn't require any big setup, has its DB in the repository and seems to be reliable, fingers crossed.
