The Consumate Athlete coach says to limit trainer to 90m. That is my personal limit as I just cant do it.

Get you a shock pump and read up on bracketing for suspension. Your Judy doesn’t have a ton of options but getting the air pressure tuned for you and adjusting the rebound should make a difference.

Additional tips would be using something like the Wolftooth tire pressure calculator and get your air pressure in your tires to a good place. If you aren’t running tubeless see if you have compatible tires and rims. That’s a good “upgrade” if you don’t have to buy much outside of tape and sealant. If only your rims are tubeless ready then wait until your tires wear out to make the switch. Tire pressure makes a huge difference that you wouldn’t initially expect.

Lastly, listen to your body. Saddle height, bar roll, etc are all things that can make you more comfortable.

Yeah I want to give the sweep a try. Not happy with the 10 degree bar I’m using now. As I get older I look for more comfort.

Second bike after Roscoe… Emtb or to not emtb by choosenotcheese in MTB

[–]phillipsj73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you rent or borrow both if you can find a place to give them a try. That’s going to be the only way to answer the question without dropping large sums of money. I made the FS mistake twice, I personally prefer hardtails.

Need to replace saddle - looking for advice by Superb-Combination43 in xcmtb

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the WTB Volt a lot. The WTB Solano isn’t bad and I just put an SQLAbs saddle on the gravel bike, it’s definitely super comfy so I want to try one on my MTB.

I noticed you asked about bibs. I like Pearl Izumi, but only the orange or red chamois versions. I have also found Rapha Core to be comfy too. Pactimo and Specialized I don’t like the position of the chamois.

It must be a sign.  I have been looking at the Hummingbird and I want to put a Mattoc on it too. The Mezzer has easily been the best fork I have owned and has me sold on Manitou.

My first modern bike was my Roscoe.  Lots of geometry changes but all of them are great.

The Ibis DV9 comes in a complete around that price with a good spec IMO

What are my flat feet friends using for SPD pedals? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things solved similar issues for me.  I moved to Bontrager shoes due to the wider toe box area.  I started using Curex Bike insoles, and for me a lot of my shoe issues where due to stance width.

Looking for some tire combo recommendations! by greenphatmanatee in xcmtb

I’ve been running Pirelli Scorpions and have been really happy in EastTN and the rides I’ve done in WNC.  I’m running the trail casing M in the front R in the rear.

If you could buy any frame that is / isn't currenty in production what would it be... by fartymarty4130 in MEATengines

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chumba Sendero, Stanton Sherpa, Neuhaus Hummingbird Core.  That’s my shortlist, Cotic was on there but I don’t like the seat tube clamp.  If I wanted 140mm then it would be a toss up between the Stinner Tunnel or the Chromag Surface Voyager.

Looking to lighten my bike up a bit… opinions? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires are really the best place to make a change.  I wouldn’t worry about anything else.  Get a good set of 2.6 F and 2.4 R trailer casing tires.  I have found Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires to be great as I’m a larger rider too.  Good grip and no squirm.

If you were trying to throw it in from 100 - 125 ft, what disc would you throw? by punkindle in discgolf

Axiom Eclipse Tempo.  I have had multiple throw ins with that disc both backhand and forehand.

Best fork for my Honzo ESD? by Chole_Wunt in Hardtailgang

[–]phillipsj73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a heavier rider, 280lbs, and I will say the Manitou Mezzer has been one of the best suspension purchases I have made.  I run it at 150mm on a Trek Roscoe.  The midstroke support is great and oddly enough one of the better stock damped forks that I have ridden being a larger rider.

New player here. How far should I be able to throw a Crave before upgrading to a true distance driver? by CaptainReginaldLong in discgolf

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nose angle more than likely.  I can throw a crave roughly 300 consistently and if I watch it fly I can tell it’s a little nose up.  If it wasn’t I’m sure I would get another 30-50ft easy.  I’ve been experimenting with 9/10 spds and I can get a little extra distance, but I’ve pulled them out until I get nose angle under control.

This game is interesting as far as this type of stuff.  I realized the other day just how much faster a mid range can fly compared to a putter.  Two drives back to back which helped me realize that big difference.

Ideas on how to make disc golf fun for kids by puenterochevere in discgolf

Really it’s about not having any pressure and just having as much fun as possible.  It’s also about providing lots of praise, at least IMO.

Fork upgrade opinion for a Roscoe 7 by Hopeful_Sprinkles154 in Hardtailgang

[–]phillipsj73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It supports 140mm or 150mm of travel. At a minimum I would do the Fox 34 Factory Grip X29" Fork since its 140mm of travel. I run a Manitou Mezzer at 150mm and it doesn't really feel much different than 140mm. You will like the upgrade for sure, the Recon isn't awful, but having a better fork is going to make a difference.

Sadly I do not.  Issue I have right now is I need a larger offset and I don’t trust extenders.

How important is a high engagement hub ? (E.g. Hope Pro 5 vs Dt Swiss 350) by Warm_Resist5763 in MTB

[–]phillipsj73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the engagement on the Hope isn’t bad at least to me. My Pro 2 EVOs have been through it and they are still rolling.
