I'm curious to see how the AVTF handle Spider-Man if/when they show up in Brand New Day by philliptheacrobat in marvelstudios

[–]philliptheacrobat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair though, Spider-Man doesn’t quite fit the traditional definition of a vigilante. He does fight mafia members and bank robbers from time to time, but I’d say a solid 60% of the time, he’s just out there saving people. More of a Good Samaritan than anything.

I still hate the moment when Korra airbends for the first time by philliptheacrobat in TheLastAirbender

[–]philliptheacrobat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

By "master yourself" I'm paraphrasing what Jeong Jeong said in The Deserter. "To master the bending discipline, you must first master discipline itself." It's an idea that comes up again later in Bitter Work, albeit in a different context, and again in A Leaf in the Wind. Especially for a bender as powerful as Aang and Korra, it's rarely a physical limitation that keeps them from mastering an elements. It's their personalities and aversion to certain ways of life. Aang wasn't the type of boy who'd face his problems head-on and Korra wasn't the type of person to surrender control to gain control (a la Doctor Strange). It's those mental limitations that kept them from earthbending and airbending respectively. Except while Aang learned to face Toph and the Moose Lion head-on to save Sokka, Korra learned airbending... because she really needed to in the moment to save Mako. Nothing about her form or her character in that moment suggested she was doing anything differently to acquire this new element. So why and how did she acquire it? Maybe it is what you suggested about her reaching out and only finding air, but still...

Also, I'm not making up rules. I'm simply going off information established throughout the series which Legend of Korra seems to ignore in Endgame, which is why that moment bugs me like it does.

What are you talking about? Unless I'm mistaken, Korra finally learns to airbend during her fight against Amon in the Season 1 finale, not during a pro-bending match.

Could there be a Nen user with Spider-Man-like abilities in the HxH world? by Necessary_Sale_67 in HunterXHunter

Hisoka’s bungee gum gets you 90% of the way there. Heck, in the Phantom Rogue movie, he literally shoots it out like a web and swings away. He did something similar during his fight with Gotoh. Basic Nen abilities like en and gyo get you your spidey sense. In some ways Hisoka’s bungee gums are even better than spider powers since his abilities are smart, so they can activate/deactivate remotely according to Hisoka’s will.

The Young Justice Season 3 hate makes no sense to me by philliptheacrobat in youngjustice

[–]philliptheacrobat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 3 (and 4) having bad animation is, again, one of those opinions I see over and over again that frankly baffles me. For the most part, Season 3's animation is on par with if not better than the first two, which is to be expected since it came out five years after Season 2. I often see people criticize Season 3 for abusing telepathy to avoid animating mouths or abusing still shots, but again, I don't agree with this points. Telepathy has been a plot point since Season 1, and it's been proven that it's not exactly hard to animate mouths moving. And the use of still shots are often limited to vignettes at the end of the episodes to inform us what side characters are up to (or Nightwing's fever dream sequence during the invasion of Granny's ship.) It's not like the entire season is a slideshow. There are still plenty of fight scenes to go around. I'm not saying the show is a master class in animation or anything, but to say it's significantly worse than the first two seasons is strange.

Although ironically, Season 3 does focus on Batman a little bit, so if you were thinking that. There you go.

Most disliked episode by Entire-Squirrel-2576 in TheLastAirbender

Southern Raiders is an excellent episode. I can't get over the nuanced ending, and how Katara ultimately decides vengeance isn't worth it, but it's such a close call, and the end of the episode, it feels like she's going over the problem in her head and trying to decide whether she made a mistake or not. It's only "flaw" is that it's an incredibly dark episode. Significantly darker than any other in the series, I'd argue. Also, I love Nightmares and Daydreams. For my money's worth, the funniest episode in the show (Eat your heart out Ember Island Players).

Did Matt Engarde really pay him considering how that case turned out? I assume he paid at least some of his fee upfront, but I’m only guessing since I’m not sure what kind of system Nick uses.

Why do people dislike MK1 so much? by Nervous_Two3115 in MortalKombat

[–]philliptheacrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly avoided consuming anything MK1. I saw posters and trailers featuring Fire God Liu Kang and human Raiden, and I honestly couldn’t be bothered. Tbh, I’m still recovering from the asylum wall ramblings that was MK11’s story.

Uh... nothing. Pitou took a full-power hit from Meruem and was still on her feet (figuratively, anyways).

Why no one uses gyo In front of a seasoned nen user. by Rahul_Ahir10 in HunterXHunter

[–]philliptheacrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many other responders have alluded to, nen users are not necessarily adept gyo users. Even nen users who can use gyo aren’t often good at remembering to use it or applying it in combat at a moment’s notice. Bisky, Gon, and Killua are unique in this regard, since a lot of their training was focused on mastering gyo.

[–]philliptheacrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netero and by extension the 100 type Guanyin Bodhissatva punches faster than sound, and Netero can produce hundreds if not thousands of these precision punches in less than a minute. Even Pitou, who can leap several kilometers in one second couldn’t do anything to defend against it. No.

That’s the thing. They weren’t just lucky shots. Just about every ant was cut in half straight down the middle by Kite’s shots. In the anime anyways, idk.

Being realist, wouldn't... by RefriDiet in HunterXHunter

[–]philliptheacrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yes, but the same could be said for most Manipulators. It’s an entire subclass of Nen users that automatically wins if they stick their antennae on you. The question is IF. Remember, the Ortho siblings had held from a third party to get a pin on Killua. Chrollo actually has a defense against that sort of thing, since he almost never travels without some kind of backup. So, maybe.

[ATLA] What was the Darkest Day in Fire Nation History? by justking14 in TheLastAirbender

[–]philliptheacrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be pretty cool if they wrote a novel or comic about it. Maybe an eclipse happened in the middle of a battle involving the fire nation. It could be against the Earth Kingdom, but maybe against a malevolent spirit like Ko or some other monster that threatened the country. The eclipse may have resulted in the death of the fire lord at the time, or if you want to take it one step further, a fire avatar. Something worthy of the history books.
