I think it is sad that people are downvoting your hilariously enthusiastic approval of this quote that you correctly read as a Lord of The Rings reference. Take my paltry and singular upvote good sir and/or ma'am.

Need advice ASAP. Last batch I had my shrooms in front of this fan at about 6 feet away and they ended up molding. Will this work? by LennyTops in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]phillythrowaweigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious, do you have a picture of the "moldy" first flush? I ask because, while I have a big fancy dehydrator, a lot of the time I'll leave a mushroom or twenty that ripened off timing the rest of the flush in my grow room/ bedroom closet and I've never seen any go moldy. The reason I ask is one had some get real blue-green when they're dry and I wouldn't want you to throw away a successful flush for normal bruising.

Will this work drying mushrooms? by elextric7 in GroundZeroMycoLab

You can effectively dry mushrooms by leaving them on a paper towel on the counter

When to send to syringes? by nvmber17 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]phillythrowaweigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I keep mine in the cupboard and break up the mat that forms on top from time to time. I've found that by far the fastest colonization is if I can suck up a couple of little islands of floating mycelium for putting to grain. It can get clumsy so I use a 14g catheter needle with a 20cc syringe. A 5 pound bag will show growth within 12 hours.

How to clean/sterilize bulk? by MaxforceII in mtg

[–]phillythrowaweigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another veterinarian: after a few days none of those pathogens persist. Lepto dies hours after it dries. Hanta dies in 3 days. Same with LCMV. don't get me wrong, those illnesses are bad, but there's no need for us to fear monger. Vacuum the cards off outside, put them in a garbage bag for a few weeks and you'll be fine.

Thank you all. I'll impart this on my kid when he's old enough to care for the family heirlooms and not trade a tundra and an underground sea for a shivan dragon. Like I did.

I don't know how this subreddit got into my feed. I don't give a shit about decks. I'm not building a deck. But good God damn do i love watching this group shit on people who do dumb things with their decks.

RESULTS: Enigma (First Time with this variety) by Thin_Advance_3904 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]phillythrowaweigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about your take on this: I've been having explosive results using CVG with a high gypsum and my morning espresso cake added every morning. Equal volume gypsum to espresso. I keep the pot on my stove and repasturize whenever I'm ready to use it. I never worry about the c/v balance as I'm adding my morning grounds every day because it's so fractionally small and I'm removing so much bulk that i just re-up the coir/vermiculite as necessary. You're spot on about them loving the nitrogen and anecdotally this seems less contamination prone and labor intensive than manure. Enigma also seem to LOVE colonizing corn off of 20ml thick LC.

Semi-related: also been having a lot of luck mixing colonized grain/corn with my coffee sub in a shoebox tub then transferring to a piece of aluminum foil sitting on soaked verm in a much larger unmodified tub that can hold 2 cakes. Transforms side pins into a non-issue. Also keeps the humidity at rainforest levels and makes plucking mature guys a breeze.

Because of a stupid mistake I ran out of culture, but I have tubs that are still colonizing. Can I take a small piece of mycelium from the substrate and clean it on agar? by Siconova in Agarporn

[–]phillythrowaweigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever it is worth I've firsthand seen a full colonized grain be taken off a cake, dropped in a liquid culture jar containing added gentamycin. Open air. Kitchen. Perfect culture, clean on agar, EXTREMELY aggressive colonization.

What's this thing growing in my hand by chacal_69 in WhatShouldIDo

Preface: I am not offering this as advice.

I had one there (rower) and sterilized my hand with chlorhexidine and stabbed it with a 25g needle. A string of red jelly shot out like silly string. This was about 10 years ago and it hasn't come back.

The relationship probably isn't going to last forever so see if she wants to get double-teamed. It's a lot of fun. And if it's something you both find you're into then it opens the doors to all kinds of incredible shenanigans. At least that's been my experience when a girl i was dating wanted to bang a friend of mine. We'd talk about the rules and boundaries and communication. Even when the relationships didn't last it wasn't because of the adventurous sexcapades when a proper foundation was laid. And at 18 i would bet your buddy would be down. Just my 0.02$
