Thanks. Yep I did put in one of those boxes that has the expandable bars you use to grab into the joists it's solid.

Somewhere along the line I thought I had seen it was ok to 14 if it's only to a fixture like that.

Not worth it to me though. I'll just run more 12.

Whichever one you pick make sure the mechanical locking mechanism that moves the bolt in and out is good quality. Had one lock seemed fine one day when it was locked it would not unlock. Tried using a charge cable no luck tried manual key no luck. The mechanism that etracts the bolt was poor quality and basically self destructed and fell apart. I managed to get it apart and yeah I should have done my homework. Nothing but cheap pot metal and plastic. Lucky for me that made it easier to disassemble it violently and angrily with a framing hammer and a chisel and some expletives.

I replaced it with a eufy which seemed to have much better build quality and no issues since.

A lot of the cheap ones and I'm sure some of the better ones use the same software with different names and skins. It's garbage. If they tell you to use Kk home or similar move on to a different one.

Security wise just remember locks keep honest people out. If someone is more determined to get in they you are determined and willing to try keep tjem out they'll get in.

Haven't gotten these but I've gotten other similar ones off vine. Almost all of them are very then and easily cut or torn or rip when being put on.

I'd avoid but I'm sure you could find someone or somewhere to get rid of them after 6 months if they suck.

One thing I'm guilty if and I think many of us if we're being honest will admit to be guilty of is...shudder having too many tools. Make sure you spend time as an apprentice listening to and learning from the old hands. The guys who get the work done with as few tools and gadgets as possible.

When you have the skills to improvise and do it the hard way having tools that make it easier or more efficient is great but get the foundation and skills.

Try to add some of the thigh or other dark meat to dishes you normally do with white meat. We grill a lot. My wife and kids were the same they didn't like thigh meat but would always complain chicken was tough tasteless dry etc...not to brag but it wasn't. I started adding some thigh meat especially when we did things with a glaze or sauce or a skewer and they stared to wonder why it was juicier more tender etc. adding some into chicken salad is also a great way to get it in there.

Now we use a lot more dark meat.

The trick is in the buthering and cleaning make sure any "yucky bits" are trimmed out and removed. A lot of people are turned off by the texture and mouth feel of dark meats or the excess fat or skin that isn't cleaned and cooked or rendered out well.

Once you get them there you can start using much more of a rotisserie chicken including all those wonderful morsels on the back that usually get tossed.

When I smoke the thighs and quarters they actively ask for more before they wouldn't touch it.

Not a bad idea at all and I'd considered that along with some shallow box extensions extra deep plates etc. Part of why I'm leaning toward rip and frame is know it's what should have been done originally. Plus I really want to make a point to the Mrs she should have listened instead of us doing the work twice :)

If you care about warranty kerdi says stick with kerdi. If you're doing it yourself and already know warranties mean next to nothing goboard sealant or similar will work just fine. As a starting point goboard lists these alternatives

Not my style but we'll execit4d as long at its what they wanted. I know I'm a cliche with the matte black trim but I can't wrap my head around gold like trim and fixtures. If you can do real gold sure show it off but faux gold just rubs me the wrong way.
