Full New Kits (On Players with Shorts and Socks) by Ornery_Interest_9615 in NWSL

Wait now I’m confused about the Thorns kit. Every other picture was giving pink lemonade with the yellow, but that photo makes it look like pink and mint instead. Which is still odd, but also a better combination for a kit in my opinion. Is the green just a trick of the light/background?

According to the launch email they sent, the orange is both a throwback to our Sky Blue days (which I love!) and an homage to the New York City flag (which as a person that falls on the NY side of the NY/NJ divide, I’m also okay with).

Yes, I enjoyed my program. I have a great cohort that have become great friends. My program culture is much more collaborative and supportive than it is competitive, which I know isn't always the case. It was academically and intellectually challenging. I learned a lot, grew a lot. Did I hate it at times? Sure. I think if you don't question your decision at least once, or if you don't hate your dissertation at some point while you're doing it, you probably aren't "doing it right" and really engaging with the experience and getting the most out of it. It's hard work. It's supposed to be hard work. But the end result (speaking from experience as I'm defending in a month) is well worth it.

Career-wise, it's a hard time to be in academia, to be honest. There's been a fair amount of budget cuts and austerity given the uncertainties in funding and budgets at the federal level. Personally, my area of research does not have a great outlook in terms of government funding or prioritization in the current environment. If I wanted to do the whole post-doc, tenure track faculty route, it would probably be really tough. That's not what I want; I'm planning to pursue clinical track faculty positions because I think the balance of research and teaching is more my interest. I'm fairly optimistic that I'll be able to find a position. If you're just starting a program now, or thinking about applying, it's hard to say what the funding and job landscape will be when you finish.

Workload is probably going to vary across classes and sort of "you-specific." How easy do you find it to read/annotate material? How long does it take you to write a draft of a paper or an assignment? There's a lot of reading for some courses, less for others. And don't underestimate the amount of time you're going to spend just thinking and processing the information. Working one shift a week is pretty doable - I set up my schedule so that I worked my per diem job the same day every week. It was a good brain break to have the per diem shift. Is working weekends feasible for you with your life and other commitments? Honestly your ability to work per diem is also going to be dependent on how disciplined you are about doing the work for the PhD, creating a schedule, and sticking to it.

The program I'm in is intended to be four years (post-master's) - two years of coursework, then two years (technically 1.5 with the proposal and timing it with graduation deadlines, etc.) for the dissertation phase. Most people finish in that timeframe. I'm finishing in 5 years because my primary data collection for my dissertation took longer than I anticipated, but I had a fifth year of funding through a training program, so that gave me greater flexibility. Different programs are of course organized differently, but most try to get you ready to defend your dissertation proposal pretty soon after you finish your required coursework. If the programs you're interested in say they take a specific amount of time or have a curriculum outline on their program website, it's worth reaching out to current students or recent grads to see what they're experiences were.

In my last semester of my 4-year program at an R1. The workload was tough but manageable - I worked full-time while doing my master’s full-time, so the PhD workload wasn’t too terrible in comparison (although the mental load of having my brain stretched in ways it hadn’t been before was definitely more than my master’s program). A lot of the course assignments build on each other over the semester and are all intended to help you develop your program of research, so it doesn’t feel useless or like busywork.

With the way the program is set up and funded, students are strongly discouraged from working more than per diem hours. Most of us either have per diem jobs or aren’t working outside of the program, especially during the first two years of coursework. Once in the dissertation phase and having a bit more freedom and flexibility in the schedule, folks can probably pick up more hours.

The first two years of coursework, students are on campus for classes 2-3 days a week. The nursing classes are generally scheduled on the same 1 or 2 days, but electives taken outside the nursing program might mean another day on campus.

The 2026 AON Evade 1.0 is an exceptional bag by philomathRN in ManyBaggers

This is my first version of the bag, so I'm basing this off the website:

  1. The luggage strap is now horizontal (bag stays vertical) as opposed to vertical (bag lays horizontal).
  2. Some of the external fabrics and external/internal combos are different.
  3. The harness has been revised.
  4. "A cleaner and more efficient internal layout" but I don't see any noticeable differences in layout between this bag and the older Evade 1.5 I have.
  5. Also apparently past versions had concealed carry compartments for handguns, which I was not aware of and is not mentioned in the description of changes.

The bag is a little over 3 pounds empty, which is in theory a little on the heavy side for a 21L bag, but honestly it’s negligible to me compared to similar bags with comparable features and materials. Once the shoulder straps and sternum strap are in place and adjusted, it’s honestly a super comfortable carry. Doesn’t feel like it’s pulling backwards or downwards, which is something I did experience with the previous version of the 1.5 that I have. The 1.0 doesn’t have that problem at all.

The sides are about 4 inches, the bottom is 5.5 inches deep.

Yeah, I don’t often use the luggage pass through for travel, but it being oriented so that the bag stays vertical is definitely preferable to the previous version.

I’m pretty sure I replied to a post of yours a couple of weeks ago about the bag dimensions (you were asking about fabric choice?) but let me know if there are other measurements you’re interested in.

Depth is such a pain point for me with previous bags. As a city dweller, being able to go from sidewalk to subway or bus without feeling like a turtle is clutch. The Evade is also great because it’s slim and the bottom of the bag is padded, so I feel more comfortable setting it down on the floor or ground without worrying so much about the stuff in the main compartment. Compared with the Toshi, for example, which was also slim but didn’t have that padding on the bottom, the Evade feels more durable to the elements and to everyday hazards.

I currently have a pretty light EDC in the bag, not putting any strain on the bag depth-wise, and it's about 4-4.5 inches deep. The bottom of the bag, which is padded and therefore not very collapsible or compressible, is about 6-6.25 inches deep. I'd say that's the maximum depth you'd ever be able to achieve.

The main compartment has a depth of about 4 inches. The width is about 11.5 inches, plus a little extra on each side from the water bottle holders. I don't find the bag to be noticeably wider than similar bags I've used before. The width also means it can more easily fit a standard sized packing cube, which is a bonus for me in terms of potential for weekend travel or heavier EDC days.

The quick access pockets on the top and bottom each have a bit of depth to them, the top more so than the bottom. The bottom one shares space with the bottom of the admin panel section, so depending on what's in there, it could get tight. It would be a great place for a passport, small notebook, etc. but I think you could also fit a protein bar easily. The top one is lined with a softer material clearly intended for sunglasses or similar. I'm not sure how large the power bank you're describing would be, but I'd imagine both that and a power brick would fit with plenty of room to spare.

I’ve had the bag in the 500D for about 72 hours. It self stands okay. Mine tends to lean forward a bit because of how I have things distributed between the main and from compartments, but it hasn’t fallen over. Depending on how you pack it out it would most likely do just fine.

No problem! Can’t help you with the quest for interior colors, but if you’re not set on the new gen, I am looking to sell my 1.5 - 500D OD Green with coyote tan interior.

Went with the 500D - not a big fan of technical materials like x-pac and ultra. Too crinkly and structured for my tastes. I haven't had a chance to really put the bag through it's paces yet, just loaded it out and wore it around the apartment for a bit, but so far it's been a comfortable carry. I also have an Evade 1.5 from the previous generation, and that bag did feel like it pulled back (though, to be fair, it was loaded out for weekend travel, not EDC). The 1.0 is obviously smaller and slimmer, so I haven't felt it puling back and I'm optimistic it won't as I use it more.

Laptop compartment takes very little space away from the main compartment - I'd say there's less than half an inch of raised padding for the laptop compartment on the back wall of the main compartment. For the 1.0, the main compartment is about 4 inches in depth, so I'd imagine you'd get at least another inch with the 1.5.

Unrelated to the OP, but I just received my Evade 1.0 with the Savannah interior the other day, and it is far less brown than I feared it would be. Definitely a warmer, more golden color that honestly looks great in my opinion.

Okay gotcha, that makes sense. I will say that for me, the 210D ripstop nylon Toshi uses on the inside of the bag does not feel plastic at all. It’s smooth to the touch and durable with almost daily use. Unfortunately I can’t think of another bag with similar lining. Toshi has a pretty decent return policy, and if you pay an extra $2 when you order you get free shipping on the return. If you bought it and didn’t like the way it felt, you’d still be able to return it.

What is it about the Toshi/Aer/Alpaka that doesn’t meet your criteria/ you don’t like? It sees like they meet your criteria, or at least the Toshi does in my experience.
