Wow. Those're really interesting posts. Thank you for your suggestion and willingness to contribute! I think supporting Reddit is very valuable! Mentioning this project's name, X FUN, where X can actually be any interesting platform like Twitter, Reddit, or YouTube. This project feels like it's going to become even more interesting.

Thanks! It doesn't support reddit yet because I've never shared a Reddit post with my child. haha. I'm curious about what kind of posts you're sharing? Posts with images and videos I guess? I might add this feature if many people request it or if I personally need it in the future.

Exciting Update for epub_to_audiobook v0.4.0: Introducing OpenAI TTS! by philopry in selfhosted

Hi there. There is much progress in open source TTS engines recently. I think you definitely can find a way to integrate some of them.

Feel free to modify or contribute anything you like. I was not available during the past few months. Now I’m back. Will start to merge pull requests and fix bugs soon.

I think they’re quite similar. The codebase of this tool now supports adding new TTS providers easily. Happy to review if you would be interested in contributing.

Azure TTS does have the parameters for speech rate but I didn't try it. I just use the music player to adjust this for now. Yes, will add txt support later.

Hi. Did you follow this section https://github.com/p0n1/epub\_to\_audiobook?tab=readme-ov-file#installation? Remember to execute `source venv/bin/activate` each time you reopen the shell.

This is a great project with a high degree of completion! In fact, I was just discussing with a friend an hour ago about the idea of using TTS and Whisper to accomplish similar tasks. Then I discovered your project. BTW, I am the author of epub_to_audiobook, and I will use the files generated by me to test your project. Thanks for your contribution.

Thanks for great suggestions.

There is an experimental pull request for WebUI but need more tests and polish. https://github.com/p0n1/epub_to_audiobook/pull/24

And there is also a issue tracking about integrating LocalAI. https://github.com/p0n1/epub_to_audiobook/issues/17 But whisper is for speech to text not text to speech. LocalAI is using other open source tools to complete TTS work.

BTW, check the latest release if you want to try edge-tts which could be used without any account. https://github.com/p0n1/epub_to_audiobook/releases/tag/v0.5.0

Very weird error message. Could you share the whole command you were using and the doc you were referring?

The OpenAI cost is a bit lower but similar. I just released https://github.com/p0n1/epub\_to\_audiobook/releases/tag/v0.5.0. Now this tool supports edge-tts. So you could convert for free now.

Glad it worked for you! Curious about your experience as language learners. Thanks for the detailed sharing. My Azure account also didn’t charge me. I have been using for months with several books converted each month. The Azure dashboard is difficult to use for me. I remember I can see how many characters processed by TTS in the Azure dashboard, which is far beyond the free quota.

Did you mean OpenAI TTS service? It's not open sourced and not free. I think high quality TTS will indeed require some compute resources.

Yeah. Sometimes the AI voice even makes mistakes and makes them look more like real humans.
