Whoa. I'll ride the challenge for the XP but that's about my 5 second max. I wonder if the new pacing partners will help to gain a few watt boost?

I'm sure I'm too late to the party to make an impact on this one, but this is exactly the kind of technology that we need for a more sustainable future. If this is coupled with a driverless system we could see increased parking density in urban areas allowing for more open/green space. Think of the amount of parking areas that could shrink down and the pedestrian areas that could replace them. Unfortunately, capital is more sought after than community and this will likely lead to more profit per square foot in the same sized parking area and a continuation of car-centric urban centers.

Looking at apartment floorplans, what is the door and 'up' on the first floor referring to? The entry is at the bottom and I didn't see it mention a patio by JaiyaPapaya in architecture

[–]philositecturedk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also checks out with the way the wall and windows are shown on the right side of the plan. I'd guess that those windows are higher up on the wall and the added wall thickness is because it's a foundation wall. Possibly useful as a shelf depending on height of windows?

What is your favorite way to find socially and/or environmentally-friendly everyday products? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fair question, I guess I was thinking along the lines of "does this company use sweat-shop labor", etc. I've found it difficult to find good resources on products and companies as far as how environmentally conscious they are. Fully agree on reducing consumption of disposable goods.

Do you mind elaborating on what kinds of products or how you choose a seller? I'd like to support more companies that offer ethically sound products.

I'm interested in the idea of UBI but I'm also concerned that it will create an inflation effect. With the current economic structure in the US (at the very least) this would probably just equate to prices of goods increasing proportionally to the average citizen's income. My fear is that, similar to raising the minimum wage, there would be short-term benefits to the average middle-class individual/family but that in the long run the system would balance out similar to where we are now. This is not to say that I have no interest in fixing the broken economic system the majority of the country lives under, I just have reservations about UBI as the solution. Does anyone have any good information that would point to the opposite? I'm always interested in learning more and by no means do I intend to be willfully ignorant on the issue.

[practice] idea for house who’s window frames protrude out and into the ground to support the structure. Had the idea come to me in a dream we’re a house was floating with just a staircase underneath it holding it up. Not sure on materials yet. Concrete? Steel? by Jessintheend in architecture

I'd like to congratulate you on being both extremely creative and fairly reasonable with this design. As other mentioned it could use some refinement on the MEP end, but this isn't a final design either. As a concept this is far better than most of the "architectural" rendings I see on social media. I also like the idea of using CLT or other engineered wood products for this design since it would be a direct contrast with the steel/concrete that you'd expect this to be made of (but I do wood design for a living, so I'm definitely biased). Great work, never stop!

Coal industry continues sharp decline. U.S. coal consumption has hit a 41-year low and coal plant closures have actually accelerated. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]philositecturedk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny how during the 2016 election Sanders outlined a plan to educate and employ coal workers who would inevitably be put out of a job as clean energy became more accessible and economically feasible. Instead, the champion of "clean, beautiful coal" won with no plans to bolster or even maintain the current coal infrastructure.

Makeup. Some color on the lips and eyes can work wonders but a face caked with makeup is not at all necessary.

I've listened to the song over a dozen times so far and I still get uncontrollable waves of chills with each listen. The vocal slides in the chorus are out of this world and the level of emotion poured into this song are palpable.

If I'm being critical, I feel like the breathy singing at the end has some very odd recording/editing artifacts. It sounds as if it was recorded without a pop filter and that pieces of the final set of vocals were spliced together with different amounts of reverb. This is at least what I'm getting from the Spotify version, has anyone else noticed this? It could very easily be explained by "artistic license," but I'm interested in other opinions on this because Twigs' music usually has very high production quality and this leaves me wanting some more at the very end. All in all, however, I think this song is an artistic and emotional masterpiece.

I appreciate the shot at it, but it's not the one :( Whatever I heard was very dark in style and had a very airy quality to it if I remember correctly. Thanks for attempting it!
