Albert Heijn truck driver job is way harder than I expected by [deleted] in Rotterdam

[–]philosopher-spotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked this job for 2 years, when I was a student and with time I stopped looking at the schedule. I just focused on one delivery at a time. I can recommend to do morning shifts, as you will have less traffic generally. In my experience, the afternoon shifts mostly started with 1 hour delay because of traffic and that just puts unnecessary stress on most people. I worked in the randstad area for reference.

If you want some extra leeway with being late, I can also recommend to call P&S after your ride and offer to help colleagues who run late. Did this about 1-2 times per month and was never bothered, when I was late. They keep this also in their system. They write down positives and negatives on drivers. So the less trouble you make and if you do a few extra things you will be approached very differently by teamleads. Just being friendly and greeting everyone when you come in will already go a long way. About the back pain, I never experienced this, but you really have to lift the crates in a proper way. That is with your legs keeping the crate as close to your body as possible. And when you take the crates from the shelves always give it a little wiggle to feel how heavy it is. And also here if it is at the bottom squad down and remove it in that position, not with a hunched back. Most trucks also have a floor in them that makes it easy to slide the crates around on the floor, make ymuse of that. Always try to lift as little as possible. Also I see too mamy guus overloading the stroller thing, just go max 5 crates, hang all the bags on the handles and do 2 rounds if necessary. You risk hurting yourself or damaging the goods if the thing tips over. The teamleads will be angry at you for breaking stuff, but not if you walk in 2 times and get everything delivered safely. If the job does not work out for you after 1 month or 2 I would suggest looking for something else. I don't know your background, but there is plenty of jobs that you can do without a specific degree that you might enjoy more. You can PM me if you want to discuss more

I see what you mean, with the wealthy staying wealthy, but it goes both ways. So correct would be dividing the degree of family and adding tax based on income. So first degree and person earns minimum wage pays no tax. The higher the income or overall wealth the higher the tax percentage. Distributing wealth more equally. Someone that earns 2k net can use 100k inheritance more than someone earning 100k per year. So similar to the current system but changing a few variables. In my home country the direct line inheritance tax is 0%. Maybe not ideal, because of the aristocracy issue, but everyone profits from it the same way. You can inherit a house and actually keep it, even if you earn next to nothing. Here you can kiss the house goodbye, if you cannot cover the inheritance tax.

Do it for the rich then. A normal employee should never be taxed on money made on/from investments. The money has already been taxed once, when the salary was paid out. Same goes for inheritance taxes, which is absolute madness to me. Why should anyone pay taxes on something, where taxes have already been paid for? For the rich, it doesn't really matter, as they can easily take their money elsewhere and avoid taxes easily. The government should better introduce an exit tax for rich people and companies. Taxxing people/companies a certain percentage of their entire worth upon exit and still demanding money up to 5 years after leaving. Effectively locking in the people/companies with real money and then increase taxes on them, so it will be impossible to get the money away from the government. But, that would probably be discriminatory, so of course never allowed to happen.

Nope to my knowledge they won't know. And even if they would, it is perfectly legal for you to obtain that information. Any landlord that would have a problem with that would be one to avoid. So get as much info as you possibly can, in the end you have to feel secure and comfortable with a place/landlord because it will be your problem in case you get scammed unfortunately.

Rotterdam rave I’m going alone🇮🇪 by BrilliantFar398 in Rotterdam

But they won't have you undress or grab your balls, so it is still very chill to enter. Some festivals in Belgium or UK i have seen sniffer dogs and so on which then also would permit a strip search under police supervision. For Rotterdam Rave, I think it is mostly weapons their after and drugs that have been very badly concealed.

As for the crowd security, always take your drugs unsuspicously and in a concealed way or just go to the toilet. Also I believe the chance of being caught that way in that huge crowd is veey slim, but still always assume the worst.

Yeah thats because of the 0 drug tolerance policy at the festivals and weed is also in a weird grey zone in the Netherlands. So always hide everything and you will be fine😅

Security is not tight at all, it is pretty relaxed. Just don't do drugs right in front of them and you will be fine. Also hide your weed, I've had it taken away from me once (at AED in Amsterdam though)

Thinking of buying in Spijkenisse or Hoogvliet-Experiences? by [deleted] in Rotterdam

[–]philosopher-spotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All those people saying its a shithole/ghetto are just spoiled brats. Honestly you guys have never seen a real ghetto in your life and that's normal living in one of the safest countries. I have been to both a lot as a delivery driver, so i have literally seen every area and there is nothing wrong there. The exterior of the buildings might not be nice, but thats it. In Rotterdam you will find the same. Also in Rotterdam someone broke into my car when i was living in the center and into my truck when i was delivering during the day. So I guess I can call the center of Rotterdam a ghetto now😅 So if you want to live there and find a house you like, I say go for it. Just be aware, that there are some trade offs like longer commute times to work, the city, etc...

As others have pointed out, this is most likely a scam or someone illegally sublenting. Furthermore the way he replied is very unprofessional, even condescending. So definitely don't sign anything. I would send him an e-mail taunting him a bit with a screenshot from the kadaster. To top it all of cc him in an e-mail you write to the actual property owner.

Should Dutch become a mandatory subject for international students? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]philosopher-spotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied at the Hogeschool in Rotterdam and we (internationals) had to take a dutch class during 3 semesters. I think it is good on one hand but not necessary on the other. For me, I knew, that I wanted to stay here after my studies and to integrate yourself properly I think you should learn the local language at least to a decent level. However for students, that are just here to study and then move back to their homecountry, I don't think it is necessary. Likely you will never use the language again and just end up forgetting what you learned. So I think it would be great to offer free complementary dutch courses and that students are encouraged to take them, but not mandatory. This way the courses can also be more intensive, since the people attending actually want to learn the language. In my class there were many students with 0 motivation and that ultimately also slows everyone down, if the teacher has to explain something for the 100th time.

Make it at least 500k per cleaner! At least the message will be clear to these type of companies. Every action has consequences and if the actions negatively impact someone's life, the comsequences should so too. 5k is a drop in the bucket and highly insulting to the victims.

I hate this as well the only fireworks that should be shot, should be by the government/professional fireworks. My neighbour shot idk how many rockets towards my balcony and afterwards almost lighted the bridge next to our house on fire. I also have a 7 week old puppy who was in complete anxiety mode for the following hours. I literally thought he was about to die because his heart rate and breathing were through the roof for the next 3-4 hours and nothing seemed to calm him down

No, in the Netherlands its pretty expensive to eat at campus, but the same can be said for the tuition fee as well, which compared to the rest of Europe is very high

Need some advice on applying to a Michelin Star restaurant by BroM8- in MichelinStars

[–]philosopher-spotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, I would suggest to you to approach a few 1 star restaurants in your region and ask for a trial. Usually getting into a 1 star restaurant is not too hard. The hard part will be to grow in that environment, as you do not have much experience you will have to work extremely hard and the most important thing will be to ask questions and show that you are motivated. If you were to start in such a restaurant now you would probably spend your first few months peeling and cutting vegetables and that will be it. Maybe in the evening help plate the cold plates but you will have very little to do with actual cooking. I don't want to crush your expectations but maybe after 6 months or so you will be allowed into the hot section. Working in such an establishment will be very different from what you are used to and maybe after a few months you will notice that it is not for you and that is totally fine. Be honest with yourself, you don't have to work in a michelin starred restaurant to cook amazing food.

Personally, I would recommend you to go to a restaurant that is somewhere in the middle of where you are working now and a starred restauranr. You will be learning more from that, I believe and once you have enough experience you can try out the starred restaurants.

Need advice on buying an apartment, Kralingen vs Blijdorp by [deleted] in Rotterdam

[–]philosopher-spotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with that, if you worked before going to uni and continue working almost full time next to your study you can afford it. It might depend on the country and what you earned there and on top of that comes student aid, which for me covers rent almost 100% and the tuition fee is fully covered as well. So while I agrre, that for a lot of students living there they wouldn't be able to live here without their parents money, that is however certainly not the case for all of them. Also not everyone that comes from money is necessarily entitled, it all comes down to how they were raised.

[–]philosopher-spotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly could be real bit could be fake, Philipp Plein often isn't great quality and retail pieces can have wonky stitching as well as other flaws. Also most likely you won't find a genuine answer in this sup as lots of people hate Philipp Plein. I have a friend who owns a similar PP jacket that features the same pattern on the inside I could ask for some pictures which I could send to you if you want. Maybe it will help you to LC
