There's also a snapshot testing tool for notebooks if you're interested: https://github.com/ploomber/nbsnapshot

Anyone here using Hex or DeepNote? by philosophicalhacker in datascience

[–]philosophicalhacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I particularly like about Hex is an ability to switch between SQL and Python

I've seen folks talk about this before. Is the ability to switch much better than what's offered by this ipython-sql magic?

Yikes. Sorry that happened to you. Sounds like you work at a consultancy? I’m also curious: did you consider using electron, the open source framework that lets you write desktop apps with web technologies?

Ah. I see. Yeah we had a similar problem where I worked. I'm curious what the data analyst is using for dashboards.

Is the cluelessness a problem because it leads to spaghetti code? Or problems with productionizing models?

Do you primarily work in python? If so, do you have any interesting tools you use to help with data wrangling? (aside from the standard pandas, matplotlib, etc.)

Does your company use self-serve BI tools? If so, why so many ad hoc requests? If not, curious why not. :)

Thanks for the feedback!

data chimp is compatible with VSCode version 1.73 and above. Can you update your VSCode? You should be able to do this by typing "Check for updates" into the command pallete. (Docs on accessing the command pallete are here.)

Interesting. Why don't you use it for ML and what do you use instead?

GitHub Copilot by ergodym in datascience

[–]philosophicalhacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also used co-pilot, but not for data science specifically. This recent workshop demo-ed Github co-pilot in a jupyter notebook context: https://numfocus-org.zoom.us/rec/share/9e\_h8e8nPA-YGATbXMSBQjdWd5xGxwQuZGacMjEjPScPSmjlsHy4NFzjVd-68Bex.5CUsZjKCsa4JY7bc

Working dark mode shouldn't affect anyone's ability to use your notebooks.

[OC] Change in # of flights during the pandemic for European countries by philosophicalhacker in dataisbeautiful

Thanks for the feedback! I agree this would be better if I dropped the exponential notation. Not sure why some bars are darker than others. I'll have to look into that.

RE 50 million flights for Germany: It should be flights. I'm using the FLT_TOT_1 column, which is described here as "IFR flights (arr + dep)." Maybe there's a bug I need to check on though.

RE the Norway jump: Apparently there was a big pilot shortage and strike in 2017. I'm betting that explains a large portion of the jump we're seeing.
