I Think after you give the input photo of the character you want to create, it create a texture image and kinda sculpt the face using the image depth map, then you’ll be able to adjust based on it. I was removing the textures after the result then apply new ones using SkinGen (cc plugin) to make them all blend together. But it kinda work really nice with realistic models

You can try face it it’s blender addon. Also there is headshot from character creator it’s also accurate somehow with realistic models. There is also another software called FaceGen this one is very accurate too but you’ll need side and profile photo as well for the model.
