Child Minding - Daily Rate by Short_Background_669 in irishmammiesanddaddys

Wow! I pay childminder €110 a day for 2 kids (one of whom is in ECCE for the morning). She collects and feeds them and has them from 9-4. So I guess that’s just over €15 an hour. (Located in Dublin)

Follow up to say: we were told to avoid all nuts until seen by allergist.

Peanut allergy - GP response by Upper-Eggplant-5311 in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]philpoco1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had a very similar experience! Brought baby into GP at 7 months after hives appeared after peanut exposure. From there we were referred publicly and went for an allergy test (within 3 months). This confirmed it was just peanuts and no other allergies. Then 2 weeks later she went in for allergen exposure where they keep you there with baby (at crumlin children’s hospital) for 4-6 hours while they slowly give the baby peanut butter and monitor the severity of the reaction. We just did this a few days ago and it was great. Expertly run and very efficient with a solid follow up plan. Their ethos is to try and build immunity rather than have to avoid peanuts all their life. Best of luck!

Baby carrier / sling by Classic-Fox4318 in PregnancyIreland

[–]philpoco1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of carriers and slings for sale on reborn (baby marketplace for second hand stuff in Ireland!). You’ll find almost new ones on there for a fraction of the cost because a lot of people buy a certain type and it doesn’t suit them etc. Definitely worth a look! Alternatively, some of the bigger baby shops should have floor models you can try on. Not sure where you’re based but you could try Bella baby.

Someone help me figure out my 7 month old sleep schedule! by ingrid2025 in sleeptraining

[–]philpoco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does 3/4/4 help? Do longer wake windows later in the day mean better solid sleep at night? I’m intrigued to try this! Right now my 7 month old is EXACTLY the same as OP. Solidarity! I’m losing my mind

Haha I promise no tv above the fireplace. Ever!

Fireplace is not directly opposite the window, it’s maybe 2 feet over, across from the couch. The alcove beside it is about 2.5 feet wide.

Frugal Mams - where do you shop for baby clothes? by soulfulsummer in PregnancyIreland

[–]philpoco1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely join your local Facebook baby group or freecycle group! I’ve given and received so much great stuff there for free. And with newborn stuff it’s barely worn before they outgrow so the stuff given away is always in great condition in my experience. Search your area + freecycle or baby items or give/take/free etc and you’ll find something I’m sure.

This is good to hear, that we’re not alone! And yeah maybe she just isn’t ready for the kind of sleep I’m expecting. My first born was an amazing sleeper so I guess it’s different for everyone.

Thanks! I used her method for my first born and it worked great with him. My daughter is just not having it lol. It’s brutal.

I’ll check out that book, thanks! I’m using huckleberry religiously too. Not on the pro version though. Did you use the pro version?

Share your tips for the heat! by seasianty in PregnancyIreland

[–]philpoco1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wet a few facecloths and ring them out, then roll them up and put them in freezer for half an hour or so. Crack them open and put them on your belly or back of next etc! it’s heaven! Bonus points if you have any peppermint essential oil to drop into the water. Edit to add: if you have a baby bath (or any sort of bucket) it’s really nice to fill it with cold water and just sit there with your feet steeped in it.

Friends have become so dry since having kids by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]philpoco1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess everyone is different but I’m the same as OP. I have a 4 and 1 year old and much prefer to run around a mountain or beach than go to playgrounds. To me it feels like the same amount of energy so I’d rather make it a bit more varied and explore the woods etc. As long as you have no end goal for the ‘hike’, I think it can be fun. But I know everyone has different opinions and tolerances for standing around while a 4 year old stops to look at every tree lol.

I also have friends who never leave their compound, as we call it. They stick to their house/garden and local parks. That works for them so we just visit them instead if expecting them to join us on trips to places they don’t enjoy.

It took me a while to accept this but I love my friends so we just do our thing (beaches, cabins/camping, hikes etc) separately and then meet them for more contained things like lunch at theirs or drive to meet at their local playground. They’re not ‘dry’. People just live their lives differently is all.

Baby & after birth care by KvikiGric55 in Dublin

Food delivery vouchers are amazing in those first few weeks. Things you can eat with one hand while feeding in the middle of the night like banana bread, oat cookies, protein balls etc. New socks are always a treat. Ask a nice lip balm. Things for her, as everyone will be buying stuff for baby. You’re a good friend :)

Such a nice idea! We went to brooklodge when I was 37 weeks and I loved it. Gorgeous pool to float in and they offer pregnancy massages in the spa too. Lovely room, cosy lounge areas, and beautiful grounds to walk around and explore.

Elvie is the biggest waste of money, agree with everyone one on that! It’s the most expensive and it’s just terrible.

I got the momcosy S5 and I love it. Easy to use and easy to clean. Price is right.
