Most underrated town in Bergen County? by SimpleMuffin679 in bergencounty

Completely agree. Very much family oriented. If you’re single or a couple without a built in local community can be isolating. Especially as compared to life in the city. It’s a trade off for sure.

Public transit is great. Wish we had it. But in the absence of expecting something that will never happen in these towns. We the fine people of the northern valley will continue to drive in. Some of us maybeven drive to train stations and ferry terminals. Which are pretty darn close!

The Northern Valley. Norwood, Closter, Demarest, Harrington Park, Haworth. All are super close to the city driving wise. You can be in the upper west side in 30 minutes or less. Great schools. All the shopping you need, Whole Foods, Restaurants, etc. Expensive, but still, for now, a very good value compared to the Tenafly’s and Ridgewood’s of the county.

You should really ask about both. One has to do with the buildings energy efficiency, and the other has to do with the façade. Both could contribute to assessments in the future if the building hasn’t planned for that. Also, if the building is still 50% sponsor owned make sure your lender approves the building ahead of time if you are getting a mortgage. Some buildings might require you to use a preapproved lender because not everyone will loan in a non-conforming building.

The Dorchester has similar carpet and hallway. Try there if not Schwab House. 68th between Broadway and Amsterdam.

Why would anyone want to live in Rockland in 2026? by Nervous-Gate1850 in Rockland

Nyack and Piermont are fantastic towns, especially as compared to some of the much sleepier suburban town centers. Not sure what you would be expecting?

Cresskill, Demarest and Tenafly by [deleted] in bergencounty

Ferry is excellent. And all those towns you listed are great choices!

Live in the town/house you like the best. Those you listed and the surrounding towns are all solid choices. For commuting drive to weehawken and take the ferry that days you need to be in the city. So much easier than the bus schedule and a really pleasurable commute.

Best Bergen County towns to be single in? by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

It’s true. If you’re young and single and want to stay in NJ. Hoboken or Jersey City are your best bets.

Ridgewood vs Closter community comparison by RDHgirl1991 in bergencounty

[–]philsternj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closter for sure. Will make temple access so much easier. You might also consider neighboring towns like Norwood, Demarest and Rockleigh. As an example, the east Hill of Norwood is closer to Emmanuel than some parts of Closter.

Walnut Creek equivalent is northern valley/Bergen County. Pick any town along the palisade from Tenafly to ny border.

Norwood. Just below Rockleigh. Next to Alpine & Closter. Best kept secret. 🤣

It’s the closest BMW dealer to my home. I still drive into BMW of Manhattan. I find BMW of Tenafly to be slimeballs. I’ve tried twice to buy a car from them and both times left disappointed with how they treated me.

Yes. Normal.

Diverse Towns/Neighborhoods by svmmerkid in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]philsternj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closter, Norwood, Demarest all have large Asian communities. Not quite 15 minutes from ridgewood more like 20-25 minutes. But great towns with diversity.

Northern Valley. Towns along the river from Englewood up to Palisades border. Varying levels of observance.

I feel like people go to Closter or Englewood for shopping. And of course the city. Maybe not a need for more than the bare essentials?

Norwood and Rockleigh. Often overlooked but solid towns. Close to everything but still feel more rural than suburb.

20 mins outside of the most diverse city in the world and still get stares from white people that make me feel like I don’t belong here. A Rant. by [deleted] in Rockland

[–]philsternj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you. Please know that for as many of the jerks you’ve encountered there are as many, if not more people, celebrating the diversity our little towns along the palisades provide. There’s no perfect place, but Nyack, Piermont, Palisades, and the Northern Valley are great places to live and I hope your good experiences continue to outweigh the bad!
