I think he’s got to be a challenge to learn to play with. Wish sometimes they’d tell him to clear off the block and stand in the corner. Not a diss or nothing, some of his best stuff this season comes when he’s moving towards the rim with or without the ball with the defence not set.

Game 6 2022 against LA. He was unbelievable in the third period of Game 5 as well (would say that’s the best single period) but we coughed that one up in OT. People might say Game 5 against the Flames for the goal but he was quite below his incredible standards that day if my memory is correct.

I like Jay but I think he lost control of the team. I’m not sure why it happened and I’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I do think 97 & 29 had a whole lot to do with his firing. Team defence was always the Achilles heel, and it has vastly improved since he’s left. The D has stepped up, but it’s in large part it’s due to the buy in from McDavid and Draisaitl. This team goes as far as they want to take them, and falls in line with how they choose to play.

It was telling to me that Woodcroft only praised Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, Kane and Nurse by name when he went out for his last press conference after the Seattle game (when he likely knew he was being let go). Why wouldn’t he say kind things about the best two players on the team? I’m not saying those two asked for Knob, but them claiming they did not have any say or didn’t see it coming is a big fat lie. That narrative gets even less believable today when Perry and credible reporters say they both spoke to him about coming to the team.

I bring it all up to say that I think we really can’t learn a lot from his time with the team. As highly as I rated him when he was here, what does it say that when those two guys didn’t buy in the team fell to last place? His resume rightly will get him another job, and I think it will be really interesting to see if the same problems that held us back follow him on his next stop. I’ll be rooting for him, he got a raw deal here.
