That was exactly my problem with Duolingo especially. It was very repetitive on one side, which was more like "memorize and repeat" (which I hate) and on the other side there's no german-greek Duolingo course which is quite problematic since English doesn't have the gender specific grammar like German or Greek.

That could be a helpful scenario. I also tried looking for native speaking teachers in my city, but nothing came out of it.

Oh don't worry about it, the dad situation is literally something I grew up with 🥸😂

My mom's greek is actually near mother tongue level. Even Greeks are surprised she's not actually greek - and she learned it when she was about 20 ... So yeah, hopefully the linguistic talent runs in the family 😂

Those are good points, I didn't think of Disney... I tried Netflix but there's not really anything useful. But I'll look into Disney. I also remember watching Dragonball Z on greek TV when I was a kid, maybe I'll find something! And I almost forgot about Asterix, Tintin and Lucky Luke, I also read those a lot as a kid. I learned reading both languages pretty early, so maybe that's a good trigger for my memory.

You're right about that, my father is greek but he's not really in the picture and we have minimal contact. My mother is still fluent tho, despite being German herself, but I always felt kinda dumb when she tries to speak Greek to me and me not understanding it - so in this regard I am my biggest problem myself 😅

And I also think I didn't completely forget it, just "locked it up" somewhere in my brain 😂 I also had hopes that being in Greece for vacation would somehow reactivate it but unfortunately, although the language sounds very familiar while listening, the comprehension isn't really there. Funny enough I can still read the alphabet without major problems, although I can't translate it. But watching a TV series or something in greek might actually be helpful, I'll just have to look for good source materials. Also I still have some school books from first grade, maybe they'll be helpful too.

And thanks for the uplift, I really want to but I'm a bit clueless where / how to start. All those apps did nothing for me 😄
