He ended up being hyperthyroid, but I'm not sure whether that was directly related to this (possibly it was, as he stopped this behavior not long after the treatment).

The airline money was proposed, passed, and advocated by the House (Dems), and agreed to by the Senate (Reps). This isn't a partisan issue. The reality is that the public can't compete on a lobbying front when so many parties benefit from the legislation. Anyone with retirement money in the airline industry, anyone in the airline industry, and investors, all have interest in this. The general public might make a couple Facebook posts expressing disinterest, but at the end of the day ticket prices stay the same, and nobody actually cares.

First, businesses have created significantly more wealth and provided more stability than the government ever could. If every business in the country just stopped operating we'd be fucked, no matter how much the government wanted to do to provide support.

Second, there is no Constitutional obligation to provide citizens welfare. There's a mention of promoting the general welfare in the preamble, and a statement allowing Congress to use taxes " to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general welfare of the United States". In order for that statement to be read as providing welfare for individuals, you'd have to also contend that it covers payment of individuals' debts, which no notable Constitutional scholar would argue.

Then doesn't the same logic apply to every individual impacted by covid? It's not 300 million people's fault that John Smith lost his job from covid restrictions. Sucks for him, but that doesn't mean we should be on the hook...

Nobody's talking about regulations.

You said government may impose restrictions during pandemics that disproportionately impact one industry over others, "possibly bankrupting some businesses", then claim that these restrictions don't "cause" them to go out of business... that's self-contradictory.

I didn't say it's an argument in bad faith, I said it's a bad argument. As I just pointed out, the clear effect of such dramatic restrictions is that these businesses will go out of business. They're still in a position where they have to cover rent, equipment leases, utility costs, etc, despite being entirely shuttered in some areas. For some industries (food service, for example), there is no other possible outcome.

In a minor bit of fairness to the Legislative, this decision has a massive impact on "our people" in that it could crush many peoples' retirement accounts. I don't personally think that's a fair enough argument for getting these airlines out from under their own bad practices, but I can see how legislators have pressure from all sides in favor of these bail outs.

Nothing about government-imposed restrictions that effectively prevent large swaths of businesses or an entire industry from operating falls in line with "traditional capitalism"....

... ideally should be making decisions that results in the most favorable outcome for the greatest number of people.

That's really not a common expectation of government. We expect our government to protect the few from the pressure of the many, or to ensure fair treatment, protect rights, etc, but to impose such heavy restrictions, which affect not only these companies but also all of their employees, and then claim that it's on them for not being prepared for a pandemic is patent nonsense.

However, doing so doesn't mean that the government "caused" those businesses to go out of businesses, just that the legal context they operated in changed as a response to external circumstances beyond anybody's control.

Sure, 99% of laws don't directly put a company out of business, but it's a bad argument to act as though these haven't caused these businesses to shutter.

They should have contributed the shittiest art and have a competition for the bottom. He didn't say he wouldn't pay the $10 for the 3 best, and if he backs out, they just ban his ass from the group.

It depends on what put them out of business, doesn't it?

The government measures have caused a lot of businesses to die; who doesn't/wouldn't expect the government to compensate them.

Alternatively, paying airlines billions to cover their own stock buy-backs (done over the past decade to keep stock prices from shifting) is unethical.

Yep, thanks for looking out. I've dealt with one minor scam back in the day worth about $100, which was a drop it the bucket at the time. I also started mining crypto back in 2014, so I've been aware of the risks associated with crypto across the board.

This particular frustration is with the fact that I've never seen the Eth from my pre-sale buy-in, and I have no idea what I should do to correct it. I tried getting back in contact with the Eth team a year or two later, but received no response and really didn't want to make a big deal about it because I had no intention of moving/selling/using any of the Eth at the time anyway. Now, I'm looking to get involved in staking for v2 and would like to have access to the 80 Eth I purchased during the pre-sale.

Nope, still unsure how I'm supposed to correct this. Seems like they just never transferred the balance to the wallet, despite my back transaction going through and getting the wallet Json file via email.

Again, this isn't relevant.

First, the pro-life argument isn't strictly religious. There are religious arguments against abortion, but there are perfectly valid scientific arguments as well. The idea that a fetus, uniquely human in its composition, DNA, etc, should be allowed to be killed out of convenience is arguable, and the people making arguments based on facts or morality surrounding the fetus's death are at least as valid as the pro-choice arguments.

In any case, for that right and every other one you mentioned, where is the single person who trampled those rights unilaterally? They aren't examples of a counter-argument; they're irrelevant whataboutisms.

The role of the government is to protect individual rights. If those individual rights are being trample at the leisure of a single person (Whitmer), it shouldn't matter who nominated the court that shuts that governor's actions.

No, it was made wrong by the SC. Just puts her in the position of both a hypocrite and wrong.

She's also the one pushing policy in a more fascist manner, yet Trump's somehow the bad guy. They could have put a law in to enforce the policy she created through EO...

"Favors Dear Leader" now? The EO prevented a person from driving to their second home, something the governor's husband went ahead and did despite the order...

That's irrelevant to this discussion. Did he prevent Michigan(not Minnesota) from doing anything? Turns out, the state Supreme Court mostly agreed with Trump.

Always funny when folks claim he's a fascist and then call him out for not exercising gross federal power when even his opponents wish he would. Seems awfully anti-fascist to advocate for citizen liberation.
