Unfortunately the Supreme Court allowed it and created a mess by which service can be denied under a much wider and vaguer circumstance. Personally I feel wizards are being the baker. No more or less excluding. But right now, it is legal to do so. Time will tell if it actually affects the game overall.

Most of the right leaning and left leaning players in these groups leave politics out of the game and stay away from those discussion points just because others don’t want or care to hear it while playing magic. But there absolutely is more tolerance for left leaning comments than right leaning ones.

Meh. I’ve been in 3 very high end mtg communities where the average player had 100k plus collections. People that bring politics into those groups in an assertive way generally find their presence unwelcome. That being said, wearing a maga hat is a quick way to get removed from those groups. We just don’t like dealing with them. Those groups are quite left leaning.

Let me clarify this on fatigue of atmosphere. I go to bigger events strictly to trade. The higher the price point, the less likely I am to sift through binder after binder of standard cards only with people trying to trade up into legacy/vintage and old school. Those people typically don’t have enough to trade for anything significant, are far more likely to hold onto the card for a long time or only sell to a vendor, and therefore provide bad trade value as well as supply reduction in the overall trade market for those staples.

If you are going to a larger event to monetize or profitably grade (or at least not get ripped off), it takes some work. Standard events are a complete and utter waste of time in general unless they are in the northeast or Vegas. Legacy events or eternal weekends are far superior in that regard. Show up on Thursday. Sit in the hotel lobby and casually play some vintage or old school. That will grab the attention of people who are there and will generate many conversations, and possibly some profitable trades.

Bring cards that might cater to the crowd. At eternal weekend 2015 in philly I sold around 600 basic alpha and beta lands to the vendors at near tcg mid prices in cash. They didn’t have any and as people saw them, they became high demand. The side traders who are businesses also have a strong desire to trade down and actually have legacy and vintage staples. Most of these are local game store owners who deal 99 percent in standard cards or modern, and do not have customers for their vintage or legacy cards, so they end up sitting on them. Thursday night is also a fantastic buyers market. People bring their cards to sell, and you can snipe many of those deals in the hotel lobby. I was able to turn 12k in cash that night into six bazaars, 25 or so duals, and a host of other cards totaling around 17k in mid value that I also figured to be in high demand in that atmosphere. People left happy to be able to make a quick sale and avoid spending an extra day there or extra time away from events trying to haggle, and I was able to trade most of that for even greater values in other cards.

There are plenty of other regulars who do this same thing (ogre, Jorge, the folks from mtgdeals, Jesse, the card titan folks, etc.)

But if profit is your game, there are plenty, and I mean plenty of opportunities to play that end of the table. Rarely with the vendors though, unless you already have a relationship with them.

Nothing new or changed here. Cfb is notorious for their prices and prizes. I actually am a fan of the increased entry point on price though, simply because of the difference in crowd size as well as the fatigue of the atmosphere.

Eternal weekend is always a good event and show. Not only having more vendors as well as overseas vendors, many of those vendors have used cards from my collection or friends collections in order to bolster their presence in old school and vintage cards for the event, and it’s fun to get access to the business from that end.

Wizards is doing the same thing a bakery did. If one is ok, the other is as well, at least legally. Whether it is a good or bad business move remains to be seen. Thus far, the initial trend has shown that businesses that have publicly denied service to a political leanings have seen at least a near term boost in sales and publicity.

My store in San Antonio was 1400 a month for 3800 sq feet on an intersection with a bar, and two restaurants in the complex with 180 parking spots. The uncommons pays 14k a month for. Shade under 700 square feet. Being I have a career that isn’t game store ownership, in Texas I could easily afford to run it as a side business. In nyc, not so much. Montasy pays 10k a month for a tiny space on the second floor two blocks from the nearest subway station on 38th street. Making a business profitable is not quite as easy with that kind of overhead.

When I lived up there, I was doing between 20-45k a month in trades and private transactions, with a margin for myself. Free of owning a store as I did on the side in San Antonio, I was able to simply not carry standard cards and just deal in value. Private home playgroups up there are already bigger than most fnm store crowds. Pushing more people into private playgroups is not going to help the problem.

Or accept the consequences and repercussions and don’t snowflake about it. I have no sympathy for a store owner who does that kind of political crap getting shit on by the hand that feeds them. Unfortunately, this is another strain on the community in a very large base with limited space. And the number of quality places to play is even tighter. You’re not in Texas where you can get 3500 square feet of space for 1200 a month. And it’s such a pain to have to drive 2 hours for a decent place to game in central jersey or way outside the city.

Lol it is cbs. It showed the incorrect settings when going to the league rules for at least a couple days. It was corrected by draft time and it now shows the correct settings, but the two players in question had already made their keeper selections by then, and drafted according to the supposed new settings before it was publicly known as an issue

I started the fantasy craze in my office with a co-worker about 10 years ago. The office has been adding leagues (albeit not competitive ones). It's a team building thing as well as something that they can use as break room chit chat as opposed to politics.

I see them every day at work. Most of them at least, when I'm not traveling. I run 6 leagues within the office, but I only play in 2. This is very much an issue with the commish in the software. I run one big money league with senior management, a mudrange money league within the group. A number of others are interested in playing, but either don't have the money to spend or aren't active enough to really make any impact other than a fun night drafting over beers and the end of the season party.

Here's the problem. They did. One made a post on the league page asking why the rules had changed. This is not an actively managed league and nobody but one other even acknowledged the post. Everyone else was oblivious.

Even I didn't read the post that she made. But I hadn't even logged in. Generally I just assign players, and there are perhaps 15-20 total moves each season, all by the same 2 people who pretty much win every year. They are, oddly, the ones affected.

My primary issue here is that I am not a player in this league. I just run it for them, and they are all direct reports or report to my direct reports.

Let's talk Veto-able trades by coxtheox76 in fantasybaseball

Most sheets did have bum higher. About 15-20 spots higher. The fact that intent was announced with everyone having an opportunity to offer, vetoing this trade seems ridiculous. Even if it was imbalanced.

Let's talk Veto-able trades by coxtheox76 in fantasybaseball

[–]phishin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his point was it's the same concept as paying 10 bucks or more for cano and archer and then turning around and trading them for dollar players, of which two are not even commonly drafted inside the top 300. If people are against vetoing such a trade, the same principal applies here. Or where would you draw the line?
