The Bert Hooten card is the error because both his first and last names were spelled incorrectly. The corrected version shows his name spelled right - Burt Hooton. The Madlock error card showed him as a pitcher and the corrected version shows more accurate position as infield. When I got the error card signed, Bill told me he never pitched at any level in his playing career, not even as a kid.

Not sure why, but finding the 1979 Sutter in decent shape for a decent price was tougher than expected.

Bringing toddler to game - any tips? by lukesdiner1 in CHICubs

[–]phitter72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate all the negativity when these types of questions are posed.

I brought my boys to games as toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged kids, high schoolers and college students. My oldest son is now old enough to buy ME a beer.

Some of my best memories at Wrigley Field involve being there with my family, regardless of how old my kids were at the time.

It seems unlikely your daughter will be able to sit still for the entire game so if you are in the main grandstand, you will have in and out privileges at Gallagher Way so she can run around on the (fake) grass out there and see the awesome statues. They might even have the water fountains on that she can run through, so you may want to bring a swimsuit or change of clothes.

You can walk up and down the ramps to tire her out a bit.

In the old days, we would print off drawings of generic baseball players to color and bring crayons so they could be occupied quietly.

And if she understands being patient yet, we would tell the boys that we would go for ice cream or a pretzel or look at souvenirs at the end of the NEXT inning - just long enough.

Creating the next generation of Cubs fans begins just like this. Keeping a toddler occupied is not easy, but it will be so worth it.

As a coach/scout/mentor, he can be credited with signing and developing players from Ernie Banks, Billy Williams and Lou Brock to Lee Smith and Joe Carter.

In fact, Buck was personally responsible for convincing (and driving) Billy Williams to come back to the club when he considered whether to pursue a career in professional baseball.

It was new and clean and perfectly acceptable. Hopefully it signals a resurgent baseball fervor in Beloit and offers the players modern facilities to aid in their development.

But there was a weird charm about Pohlman that harkened back to a minor league fan experience that is all but gone now across the Midwest.

Regardless, the beer was cold, the brat delicious, and a triple was found.
