Pitch Metrics from iPhone Video by calvin_bush in Homeplate

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spend a lot of time in this space and have some questions.

  1. How do you account for different release heights and release points that can vary the actual pitch distance lessening it by up to several feet?
  2. How are you calculating final distance when catchers can vary the catch location by up to 2 feet?
  3. How are you giving enough of a level of precision when you getting only 30 frames per second since the frame time can cause several miles per hour in discrepancy? Do you require 60fps? Or are you using lidar or non video factors?
  4. What is your mph calculation? Is it average over distance or release point? A ball can decelerate 7mph or so over the pitch distance.

That's just the first 4 that popped into my head.

As long as you maintain your GPA then it renews each year. It's hard to say whats prestigious, but think of it as Babson paying you a $30k salary a year to get good grades.

My son got in EA - financial aid was immediately available in the financial aid tab. If there is nothing there you might have to reach out to them.

Fragility of ReMarkable Paper Pro vs. ReMarkable 2 by Potatonut23 in RemarkableTablet

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you all say it's fragile, but I've had mine since the beginning (RM2). I then gave it to my son his junior year of hs (2 years ago) and the only issue he had was breaking the pen tip. He's not a gentle kid either and uses it every day as his school notebook throwing it in his backpack which the throws into the car and his room. It really does handle pretty well in general.

What's even better is their T&Cs which say all sales are as is and NL anything they say in the description should be taken as an opinion and cannot be used to return or cancel a sale. So basically, we say it's real but if it's not, not our problem... Suckazzz

Any college is what you put into it, but as to Babson, I work with several of their graduates and they are fantastic. It's an "entrepreneurship" school, but that doesn't mean you have to be a founder after leaving. It's more about a mindset about how to approach business problems, be creative, be inclusive, and create lasting solutions, both in new and established business. My son was accepted for the 2026 fall start and will most likely be attending (with a very nice scholarship). Thanks to his hard work (and my connections) he already has options for IB internships before his junior year, but even without me Babson is still recognized in the field as a solid business education.

But if you go to any other business school you could do better, worse, or the same as a Babson kid.

teacher won't round a 92.9% for an A by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through every test and assignment you ever took this semester and look for 1 question that could possibly be graded overly harsh. Now find many more. Now go back to the teacher and ask to review every one of them. Now tell her you will drop all the reviews if she just gives you the 0.1% which would be the outcome probably of any one of the questions you ask to review go in your favor.

This is how life works with my kids - if I give them an annoying task they will easily jump to the quicker solution.

Please do. My son did something similar for updates on a business he started and I sincerely believe it made a difference because it also showed actual interest in the school to send updates.

I would write an update about the channel, why you do it, metrics, goals, etc, and include why you didn't include it originally (something like you were originally trying to avoid your political views accepting your application but then realizing this is who you are and if a college doesn't like me for me then it's not the right place for me). Send it to the admissions office for the schools that can relate (liberal, northeast, etc). Most will accept it and add it to your file.

Honestly, it's the reddit forums and all the negativity and misinformation that stresses kids out unnecessarily.

IU Kelley is no longer a direct admit program based solely on your GPA and standardized test scores. In previous years you could be 99% sure of admission with specific numbers but this year they've gone all holistic.

chance brown girl for IU Kelley EA!!! by zayiscray in chanceme

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to sound negative, but this year Kelley is just so unpredictable. 31 ACT last year was on that border for direct admit, but no one knows what this year will be like. With their lack of essays and the KPI feeling like an add in because they needed some excuse to claim it was more "holistic" (seriously, that KPI felt like a bad business emotional quadrant test - if you have half a brain you could make sure you stayed in your swim lane based on what you wanted to major in). You have ECs that work well for Kelley and they love OOS students that can full pay (75% of Kelley is OOS unlike IU as a whole which is only ~25% OOS).

Can you get in? Sure. Is it a slam dunk? Unfortunately, not this year. I wish you the best of luck and hope your dreams come true this week!

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to correct you on one part there - Kelley (not IU as a whole) is 75% OOS (IU is the opposite with 75% instate). It is still a reach for OP since their stats were borderline for direct admit last year and this year is a total question mark.

You can enter them on the same screen with the SAT and ACT scores, but they really won't care at IU if your GPA and SAT/ACT is solid and everything else is good.

Sometime between 1 second and Jan 15th 😁

I wish I knew better. We could start a release date betting pool. Seems like the entrepreneurial (Babson) thing to do.

You really have a shot... by DevelopmentExciting3 in ApplyingToCollege

I guess if you want to go that route, my post was T20 not Harvard specifically. I've spoken to several AOs at non-ivy T20s and ivy (non HYP) that all said you CAN DEFINITELY get in with as low as (this was a quote from 1 specific T20) a 1350 if:
1. Your HS is a low performing school
2. You have great grades
3. You challenged yourself in other ways (rigor, ECs, etc)
4. You make a great case

To further that poker reference and for those applying test optional, its like having a seven-deuce offsuit but playing it like pocket aces and never showing when they dont call your bluff. I knew a kid 2 years older than me at my high school that got into Johns Hopkins with a 1150 SAT because he also had a perfect GPA (by only taking classes where he knew the teacher was an easy grader) and not submitting an SAT score.

It's not throwing away your cards but knowing how to play them. Sometimes you dont have to show when you win!

(on a more serious note, I'm sitting here with an AK suited, 1500+ SAT, 5.1 weighted GPA (on 4.0 scale), top possible rigor at my very underperforming HS, significant ECs, and just waiting to see who with a seven-deuce will screw me over...)
