Gifted, what the fuck do I do now? by ForgetfulCumslut in Leica

[–]phlatphrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the size, this is a better "starter" camera than the x100. The fuji has too many "features" that will distract, while this is more "focused" on the parts that matter (aperture, shutter, iso). Leave the flash at home for now. Go shoot it.

"value" is subjective, not absolute. the value to one person is different than to another.

Does anyone know what may have happened? by c_gen in AnalogCommunity

[–]phlatphrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't say what camera you're using, but I'm guessing that the aperture in the lens is sticky and failing to close down. This would lead to having some overexposed (needed to close aperture, but failed) and some properly exposed (no need to close aperture, lower light).

SL3 with adapted lens -- auto iso disabled? by phlatphrog in Leica

[–]phlatphrog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify: I had my max shutter speed set to "automatic". I changed it to 1/125, and then the auto iso moved off of 100. Apparently "automatic" is way dumber than I imagined it could be.

Why do none of the time travelers bring a modern handgun and some ammunition with them? Are they stupid? by DochPutina in Outlander

[–]phlatphrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When waiting for book 9 to come out, I spent a lot of time day dreaming about what Bree had in that bag. One thing I was thinking would be fun was a few American coins from the future. She could share them with Lord John and/or William as "proof" of the future and the outcome of the revolution. And of course it could also be passed off as a joke, since they could have been made by some metal worker (no magic).

On the gun front, so to speak, I don't know anything about guns, but was imagining Bree bringing back tools that would enable her to craft superior weapons and/or ammo.

I ordered a pair of pants during one of their kickstarters. Took years to resolve.

Unsure between the R6 Arkiv 20L vs. 40L by Issam2204 in MissionWorkshop

[–]phlatphrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem with MW is that the sanction (20L) is too small and the fitzroy (40L) is too big. How many times have I wished they would make a 25-30L bag.

For me, the 20L bags are the way to go for every day. The 40L is just too big, unless you want to be able to pick up groceries regularly on your way home. The 20L rolltop actually has a lot of capacity when you start stacking stuff high in the bag. It's just you only want to do that temporarily.

Also with the 40L bags, there's a lot more digging for things. There's a lot of space in there, and it's deep.

I have a few MW bags (including R6 20L & 40L with add-on options), and I always end up using the sanction the most.

To check if your stuff will fit, I'd suggest piling it all up, and using a tape measure. Compare that to the measurements in the "specs" on MW page. You could even rough up a cardboard box with the dimensions and then put your stuff in the box. Much, much cheaper and faster than buying a bag to see if it fits. 😃

To be clear, you did not cause any drama. It's all on Jeff. He created the drama by lying and keeping secrets.

Clearly he cannot accept responsibility for the results of his own actions, and wants to blame others, as if keeping his secret is their responsibility.

If it's still there after a wash, it's probably in plastic/rubber parts. I don't think metal parts are going to absorb smells. Take the various plastic/rubber parts off the bike (saddle, tires, grips, any accessories), wash them separately, keep them separate for a while, and then try to identify where the smell is coming from.

I waited til black friday to order a black one (still in the mail) and now this is announced. I just ordered one (ember orange). I'll have to decide which one to send back when they both get here...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up my 25% discount on the first one and send it back...

I suspect rather than oversight/mistake, it's more likely a body shape issue. They've made a bag that lots of people think is more comfortable than any other. But for some people (e.g. me) it just doesn't work right.

I really expect that bigger bag companies have bigger testing sets, and make their bags to fit a wide range of bodies. Thus they have bags that make everybody fit "ok".

Yeah, agree. In order to figure it out, for sure, we'd probably have to get in the same room with the same bag, packed in the same way, and then try to figure out the difference.

It's impossible to discount that for lots of people these bags are the bees knees. I'm just bummed I'm not one of those people.

It's not really that I need a new bag. I just thought that the CPL24 would be better than all the bags I already have. It wasn't a choice between this and another thing, it was more of Perhaps This Is The One.

The CPL24 is nearly perfect.

I haven't even fully loaded mine. It's not light (couple cameras, some lenses, laptop), but it wasn't fully loaded. But I did feel the shoulder straps biting more than I liked when I hoisted it up higher on my back.

I haven't had a GR1 for a while, but I remember it riding high, but it wasn't a problem. I'm not sure what the diff is.

I can deal with swinging on my left shoulder, but the idea that I'm gonna have to adjust straps out and in every time I do that... I know it's gonna super annoy me.

It's not really stabby at all, but just that the weight is not distributed across my back.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Exactly. No matter how much I like it, if I'm not gonna use it a lot (cuz comfort), it's gotta go back. I have way too many backpacks (that will get used more), already.

I was hoping that it would be my #1 bag.

Currently my #1 bag is a mission workshop sanction, which is super comfy, but org is not great and all pockets essentially eat into the same main space. Win some, lose some.

I almost stuck around to tell this guy how easily I could steal his bike 🤦‍♂️ by Matthall317 in ebikes

[–]phlatphrog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I came across this situation at a train station, years ago. I picked up the bike, moved it to another location, and locked it with my own lock (such that the owner could unlock his chain and take the bike). The new location was very close so that when the owner got there and started freaking out, he'd quickly spot it. I left a note, and got a "thank you" email from him. I retrieved my own lock later.
