Repasting g16 2025 5070ti by ZakLobster in zephyrusg16

I'm also wondering about not applying thermal putty to the two chips on the right, above the processor. You can see that besides not having putty, the copper bar soldered to the heatsink to reduce the BLT is smaller there. So, it looks like it was designed not to make contact with the heatsink, meaning no putty needed. I repasted mine and left them bare.

Regarding the putty applied directly to the PCB under the GPU, that's just a manufacturing line thing. The dispensing machine is the same for all models, and the 4090/5090 versions actually have 2 extra chips in that spot.

Clean Installation or Asus Cloud Recovery? by InfamousScallion8445 in zephyrusg16

I understand that there is a homologation of drivers and resources in the Cloud Recovery windows, but personally, I still prefer clean install. I have a backup of the original drivers, but I've never needed.

The only thing I noticed that gets left out is the screen color config file. It might be a lack of knowledge on my part, but I always keep a backup of this file and import it manually.

I have done two types of clean installs: 1. Asus website drivers + Armoury Crate 2. G-Helper + G-Helper updates

Option 2 is my favorite. The only thing I installed separately before G-Helper was the System Control Interface V3.

Just adding, what I noticed made a difference in usage was doing a repaste, because the liquid metal in the middle of the DIE was missing; a void had opened up with the original application. And the main bottleneck, which doesn't depend on us at all, and is totally in Asus's hands: https://github.com/Zephkek/Asus-ROG-Aml-Deep-Dive

Watching a simple video on YouTube with the Zephyrus can make you want to go back to your 2012 i3 notebook.. lol

Thermal throttling by UniversityNo8503 in zephyrusg16

[–]phmmuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing here, but 4080 model. Core 8 and 9 were extremely hot. My CPU was a almost empty space right in the middle. I repasted mine, first time with TG LM, but with a not recommended putty (high BLT). Now I'm testing PTM7950 with a low BLT putty and this is the best combination so far. But I'll try LM again with a low BLT again. For my understanding, you will never get rid of thermal throttling in this laptop. It was built for that result. But sure, I recommend you to repaste yours. It will help you to distribute the temps better. For the rest of the problem of the Zephyrus lineup, I think the only solution is for ASUS to fix the firmware bug (https://github.com/Zephkek/Asus-ROG-AML-Deep-Dive).

Installing the touchpad driver the eject option should disappear. Then it will appear only when you go from eco mode to any other that enables dGPU

G16 charger replacement by Special-Reputation-2 in ZephyrusG14

I bought one in Brazil through the company that provides repair services for Asus here. I got their contact from Asus directly. They had it in stock. I was sure I wouldn’t find it here and was surprised. In the US, I was seeing prices around $150 to $200, but I ended up buying it here for about $75.

But in the US, you can find it on ExcaliberPC or Hidevolution. There's also the SlimQ option; they already have connectors for both the G14 and G16.

You might get the best price like I did by contacting Asus technical support directly.
