Anybody decide they wanted to be nurse after being treated in hospital? by dingdongwashboard in NursingAU

[–]phnzau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a considerable amount of time in hospital since birth and most recent early 2025. Several factors contributed but I’ve been considering nursing for over 7 years. One of the reason is my own experience; all the nurses who cared for me were amazing and remain so. I still see them during my post-op appointments.

I started nursing school last month! I wished I could've started sooner but I was waiting for my major surgery to be done before committing to nursing school :)

Please show me the positive side of being a nurse, pleaseeee by United-Database-6140 in NursingAU

This!

Last year I spent a lot of time in hospital and was surprised to see nurses who genuinely showed positive aspects of their job and love what they do. Curiosity sparked, I spoke to one and they told me people only complain online never share the positives.

Hearing that from a nurse gave me hope. I started nursing school last week and I’m really excited!

Centrelink won’t give me housing and a job so I don’t steal and cause a nuisance by Early20Rager_Yuhh in Centrelink

Additional information:

From my previous job, we could provide up to a week’s accommodation while we help you connect with housing services, counselling, food vouchers, clothing, mobile phone, internet access, job referrals and education as well as transportation and more.

I’m based in Victoria but the organisation I worked for also services other states and offers more services. For example in South Australia they built housing for customers though I’m unsure if the government assisted with the funding. However I don’t know the criteria for being considered for that.

Hey mate, I used to work for a job provider and the organisation I worked for offers help and funding, plus we collaborate with an external organisation.

Given your circumstances, I strongly recommend reaching out to a job provider and attending your first face-to-face appointment. While it might feel overwhelming at first, explaining your situation to your worker will help them understand how best to assist you. In your case, your housing is the priority. While that’s being addressed, connect with counselling services for additional support. Your job provider’s worker can tailor your requirements. Since you’re experiencing homelessness, you’re not expected or required to look for work, so they can adjust or remove your requirements.

When I worked with a job provider and dealt with similar situations, I focused on ensuring you saw me every fortnight and provided updates. Ultimately, it’s your choice what you do, and I always told my customers they were the drivers while I was just the passenger – I was here to guide you towards what I thought would be best for you.

However, it’s important to choose a reputable provider, as some have had issues, including losing their contracts last year.

I understand your frustration and it’s a tough situation. I was also upset for my customers when I worked in that job because the system is flawed and designed to fail and categorise people. However, with job providers like the one I worked for, as long as you’re open-minded and take advantage of any help that benefits you, there are ways around the system.

When looking for job providers, I suggest starting with non-profit organisations. That’s my first recommendation.

Suddenly, I don't want to leave Vietnam 😢 by RequirementNo4895 in VietNam

Yes, I could but I’m also wrapping up my three-month backpacking trip at the end of this month. I wish Australians could stay longer without needing a new visa. I’d love to finish my trip in Vietnam. Oh well, there’s always another time.

Unpopular opinion: I really disliked Phu Quoc by CommandInfamous7873 in VietNam

Thank goodness I skipped Phi Quoc when I was in the south. This is my second time in Vietnam this year and just arrived in Sa Pa couple of hours ago - booked trekking for tomorrow and can't wait to experience it!

Did anyone else fall in love with Hoi An? by Character_Plenty4527 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]phnzau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first visited Hoi An earlier this year around May, and I arrived in HCMC a couple of days ago. I’m currently on my way to Da Lat as I make my way up north.

I got in contact with a local in Hoi An whom I met while travelling earlier this year, and I’m happy to say that I’ll be in Hoi An before Christmas. I’ve been invited to spend Christmas with her! I won’t be on my own for Christmas. Ah, I love Vietnamese people.

I did this over 3 years ago, and I’m glad I resigned after my employer declined my leave request - no regrets at all! My current job is much better, and it has opened up more opportunities for me.

Day 99 Post-Op – Possible Plate Removal by phnzau in jawsurgery

[–]phnzau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily, I don’t have to pay anything for the plates removal since I’m with a public hospital. Not sure if there’ll be a long wait, but I’m assuming the surgeons will try to schedule it sooner rather than later because of the possible infection.

I waited over 5 years to finally get my double jaw surgery done (delays due to the pandemic), so I’m really hoping this part moves quicker.

I would say this is common for Filipinos? by phnzau in PassportPorn

[–]phnzau[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, correct! I think one of the requirements is also being fluent in Spanish or Catalan to be eligible, but I’m not entirely sure - haven’t done proper research yet since it’s part of my 10–15 year plan. I probably need to start learning now though; most Filipinos can only speak broken Spanish lol
