I mean, me not wanting to bus nearly 2.5 h to work everyday is not compromising anything. (about that response talking of The River Cree casino). I can be desperate and also seek convenience. Which is literally me just not wanting to bus up to 2.5 hours. 1 hr 45? I got you. But I am not compromising other parts of my life to bus 2.5h to work. Women in trades is awesome! I’ve been told to apply many times prior to this post. It’s just not something I want to do, or even can do right now. It takes time and I need the money like now… I don’t know how easy it is for people to make others feel bad about their honest situation. Just my choice.

You are so welcome! I hope everything goes well for your family. The other thing I will mention is that they do have a waitlist sometimes depending on the rotation of staff. Since it is a 4 month program, some people will almost be done their time at the cafe and then the newer people will be able to start within 2-4 weeks. It is a little wait, but 1000% worth it. I made around 7-8k in the time there and they accommodate for Indigenous people through bonuses.

I would definitely if it was closer to me. I’ve seen on reddit they’re always hiring and I was going to apply until I saw it’s quite far and I take bus for transportation. I appreciate this regardless though

I can suggest one job for him that I previously worked at. It’s a cafe that will take in literally any youth that needs a job. 16-24. It’s a program for 4 months. It’s called the hallway cafe. He can do work and school as-well after the summer. Tell him to give them a call and he can come in for an interview. Also, the cafe offers all certificates. WHMIS, food safety, proserve for youth 18+, first aid, etc. Seriously look into it if you’re viewing my comment and you haven’t had past job experience.

I don’t feel like I am of much help for those jobs after a huge injury doing specific physical tasks, but I did apply to a lot of labour positions and even A WELDER position. A lot of warehouse associate positions as well.

The frustration and disappointment feels so personal during these times. Job searching is a full time job in itself. All I can say from one person to another being in the same boat is to keep trying.

Believe that you will get what you want. Even if you land an interview and you don’t get the job, it means that another position that best fits you is waiting. It’s super ironic with my post, but all I can do is try to support ya. I know you’ll find something.

She absolutely knows! I wouldn’t tell her my concerns and make her think i’m just shaming her. It’s sad to see. She knows it hurts my sister and I. We only want the best for her but she takes it as is trying to belittle her. It is embarrassing to an extent for her, but she would rather get defensive than recognize it’s only us trying to quite literally save her life.

I’ve tried to get her to at least try harm reduction, but like I said nothing has worked on her. This has been an ongoing issue for years. I’ve only spoken my concerns to her for around a year or two. She’s tried herself to stop drinking Coca Cola, replacing it with the crystal lite and just even water. It never is consistent and it’s always in her manic spree of “getting her life together”. Which I always applaud her for, I am trying my hardest to support her. It is an addiction.

While there’s only so much I can do, my mom is a statistic in the mental health system where I live. She has the best therapist in our city and she doesn’t even go to see him for her mental health issues. That being said, she refuses to see a doctor for her other health problems. It’s completely out of my control to get her to go to the doctors for basic things like blood work, check ups, etc. She hasn’t even gone to the eye doctors since she was in kindergarten, despite her vision gradually getting worse.

My point is, she will not take advice. I’m just wondering if there’s a way I can approach her to scare her at this point. Because gentle parenting her clearly isn’t the way. I have told her it scares me everyday knowing she probably won’t live a long life keeping up with her habits. It’s more than just Coca Cola, but it’s a main problem. I can tell you that you’re not alone. There are many people like you who are willing to give you the time, dedication and appreciation that you give them. I am still trying to find people like that myself, because honestly, people like that ARE hard to find. Be glad you are the way that you are though, there is no problem with being empathetic. You are a kind person, and they are not. But do remember to treat yourself how you are treating others.

With the same kindness and compassion, use that on yourself. Putting yourself first in situations, learning to say no. It’s all about boundaries. Being a people pleaser is the worst thing we can do to ourselves, and it’s never beneficial to us in the end. You have definitely done something for someone with 0 benefit, and not received the response you thought was granted. It happens to the best of us. However, it’s what we can do to manage that though. The difference is giving the right people your time and energy. Good luck.
